I find it crazy that organisations like Greenpeace need to go through such difficulties to show how much plastic we use. "The government" consists of human beings that are confronted with the same daily issue, yet it doesn't seem to be visible enough so that change could be initiated. I understand that lobbying and other things play into the unwillingness to become more sustainable but isn't it just crazy? It is so obvious just by going into a supermarket. I am not from the UK but I will check out if our national Greenpeace initiated the same project. Thank you Bonnie!!

Reducing single use plastic is great and it´s very important to deal with it, but I just want to add, that 50 % of plastic in the ocean is from fishing industry (f.e. fishing nets), so this is another big problem, that we should address too
@beauxtoxic14512 жыл бұрын
Just counted all the plastic bottles/containers in our house, including foodstuffs - 55! Yikes, when you consider toothpaste, makeup, pill bottles, OTC drug stuff, dish soap, peanut butter, for crap sakes, there’s a lot! However, 15 are actually ones we refill or re-purpose so they don’t go in the recycle bin. We either use cloth grocery bags, or ask for paper that we then use for waste we can’t compost that goes to the landfill to decompose. Now we try to improve! Thanks, never thought to do a count!

"Accessible for everyone" - that's the key term! ✨ Thank you so much for that specificity - a lot of green campaigns leave out the fact that different people have different access needs, and the way that individual people limit their own carbon footprint may be affected by disabilities, so hearing that way really lovely! Thank you!

When I was a kid, I remember seeing in the news Greenpeace's actions against whale, dolphin and baby seal hunters. These were stunning footages that shocked the world and changed people's mindsets. I have always admired the courage of the elements of this institution in those small boats against large ships. Now the fight is different. It is about changing consumption habits, which makes the task more difficult. I hope that Greenpeace can win this battle.

Thank you for the great video! As I am in the UK I will certainly take part. This week I purchased and read your book and loved it. As a student it can be hard to avoid plastics due to low budget and lack of space, unfortunately my accommodation doesn't recycle and I don't have the space to keep compost, but the most we can do is take it one step at a time and do what we can to help the planet.

(Happy belated Earth Day to my fellow Earthlings!) First things first, congratulations for the successful launch of 'Go Gently', Bonnie. While I'm fortunate to own the audiobook, I'm still helpless to buy the hardcover or paperback version. Although my Sunday was nothing special and is over now, this video surely made me hopeful for the upcoming days. Such an essential campaign by Greenpeace in today's day and age, and who better than you to inspire and be one of the captains of the whole idea. I truly wish that this activity doesn't remain limited to the UK and soon other non-profit and non-government organisations take cue from and start organising them. Better yet, it could be done on a quarterly or semi-yearly basis. Still, thank you so much, Bonnie, for this video full of intriguing, informative, eye-opening and introspective elements. It was so lovely to see you guide us by demonstrating through some of your daily activities and chores throughout the week. Kudos to you and Greenpeace!😊

Thanks for this channel Bonnie. I started watching your channel right at the beginning and you've inspired me to get rid of single use plastics where I can. We've since switched over to laundry strips with paper packaging rather than laundry pods or liquid, shampoo bars rather than buying it in bottles, a percolator + ground coffee rather than k-cups. We don't like body wash and have always used bar soap so no changes needed there. My biggest issue is supplement bottles (vitamins, etc). I take a lot of them, I'm in my 50's and need them otherwise I feel lousy. I've checked out powdered multi-vitamin products but have not found any that give me all that the various tablets do. So, powdered vitamin options are something I'm keeping an eye out for. Hopefully there's a product out there that will work for me or, one will come out in the future. In Canada where I live, our government was supposed to ban plastic shopping bags at the end of 2021 but, it's been postponed to the end of 2022 because there wasn't an adequate supply of paper or reusable bags for retailers due to supply chain issues. I've been using reusable bags myself for a couple of years. Can't wait until that legislation comes through at the end of this year.

Nice idea, but to implement change need to issue fines for large corporations not doing anything to change over to organic based containers. Plastic production predicted to increase over the next five years, we are past the tipping point. So save the oceans first while greed and profits rule single use plastics.

The thing that really saddens me is when companies begin to use plastic in their packaging when they never used to. I can no longer buy loose and unpackaged fruit and veg from our Tesco when they used to sell mushrooms , onions, carrots and all kinds which also helps reduce food waste. Now everything is wrapped in plastic , soft cling film, plastic containers and even nets . This is a massive step backwards and really really unnecessary in most cases, Broccoli, onions and cauliflower for example are so hardy they do not need any wrapping at all..And that's just the start of my rant.. I am sure you are in agreement.. we must stop producing this and should make our feelings known to large producers and supermarkets that this is not acceptable.It's possible to make packaging out of all kinds of non plastics in this day and age and companies should be forced by legislation to do this.
