Matt, the BVI are British territory and its citizens are British. There are flights from San Juan Puerto Rico or fly into St. Thomas (USVI) and take a ferry to Tortola. At the moment there is no way to get to the BVI, in fact many are trying to get out. There is no where to stay and most of the island lacks power and safe roads. lack of food and drinking water. Do please though check back in December. By then the BVI hope to be on the road to recovery and could REALLY use the money that tourists bring in. The beaches, and the people, of the BVI are some of the best in the world.

mafarmerga thanks. But I know. I go all the time and was supposed to be there Dec 7-15 this year. My point is that he says to come to BVI but there are no flights, no where to stay, the yachts are ruined.

France has already helped St Martin, I think the British gov and all British people are not as good as the French to fix their problems.

My advice to BVI is to rebuild with concrete roofs. Hurricane proof as many buildings as possible. From what I am hearing most of Anguilla homes with concrete roofs are not damage. Not sure about Turks and Caicos . But Irma pass over those territories too. We can do this. Time to rebuild. Very good discussion by this gentleman. I just wish the British press would stop bashing the UK government. They are helping all the territories!!!!!

The BVI suffered a direct hit of Irma. Many of the houses have concrete roofs. Many of those said houses with concrete roof crumbled mainly because the hurricane was also accompanied by tornadoes.

The very rich who use the Virgin Islands as a tax haven should contribute more to its rebuilding than just relying on British aid what is cheeky to to say the least.

John sweda Well said. Before Irma I doubt anyone with an average salary would be allowed anywhere near Necker Island. Let the rich pay for the damage themselves, they can afford it

and who will be "hired" to rebuild Necker Island. No don't those who were previously not allowed near it......Branson should rebuild BVI if it's so much is "home."

Now how about offering some of those apprenticeships a nice hot location to learn the trade and do some good. Quick win for the government two outcomes with one payment

The BVI is the only territory to declare a state of emergency. That means the Governor is now in charge. The Governor is the UK government rep. The Brits will take a peek at those books.

The last comment for Virgin to start flying from London to Tortola shows the man's ignorance. It is only a short runway and can't take wide bodied aircraft. It is something which has been mentioned previously as a way of raising the profile of the BVI and getting more tourists. One of it's appeals is that it is difficult to get to and therefore avoids mass tourism and all the problems that brings. Difficult decision.

People should listen to this guy. There is a HUGE Need. There are human resources in NEED of work available. What is needed is MONEY - he mentioned cash transfers. Sufficient circulating media to enable the repair transactions Seed money... - THEN people WILL come with their money - to make the islands work again. Go Tortolans..

Sorry. Wait. Are they "British People"? They have different passports, use the USD, BVI require immigration documents from British citizens. I'm just honestly curious. Is it really part of Britain so much so that they're considered they're British citizens?

Rosy Cheeks I am trying. I've never known they were considered to be British Citizens. They don't for instance have British passports. I'd never heard Virgin Islanders referred to as British citizens before.

That's super interesting. So why is it that British Citizens have to go through immigration and complete forms to enter?
@rubybrown6749

Just verified ... BVIslanders go through immigration with their UK passport same as other British Citizens to give account for who is in the country. No additional paper work is required.
