As a former EMT and ER worker, that bandage was not over the top whatsoever. In fact, it was understated. Most often, doctors will bandage the entire head with an injury like or similar to that. Perhaps getting an education would help them.

I have been an RN for 40 years and the ear is one of the most difficult places to put a dressing on. And it was a deep fresh wound and needs to be protected to prevent complications such as infection. Not a prop! That’s ridiculous for them to say that! He might also be in some pain not only in his ear but his chest may hurt also, if he had rib cartilage ear reconstruction. A personal reference: My sister tried to stop her dog and a neighborhood dog fight. She got her upper ear torn with a small piece missing. At the time she was a nurse working at a medical school hospital that had a very good ear, nose, face, reconstruction department. The had to remove a piece of rib cartilage from her chest to replace the small missing part. The surgery was done in a day and glues were used where possible instead of stitches to reduce scars.After the first day her she went back for a dressing change. The redressed ear bandage dressing looked almost exactly like what DJT has. After a few days the bandage has to be removed so it would heal with minimal scaring.They gave her medical cosmetics after the first few days to mask the bruises and redness. (She didn't want to creep out the kids that worked with at the hospital.)
