This is my favorite piece of content this channel has ever put out. As someone that plays a lot of pickup, analyzing great moves is more interesting to me than deep, advanced coaching concepts. I can more easily translate what I learn here into pickup games.
@_ericplace8 жыл бұрын
As a middle school coach, I try to give my players as many moves as possible and help them improve their vision so they can begin to understand and recognize all the possible counters. They're much more likely to work on technique in their free time than they are to study X's and O's. Studying plays is still very important from a coaching standpoint, but it's definitely not as interesting to young players. I was pleased to discover that I've been using a Durant favorite in pickup games for years, the hesitation go. I'm better at the righty hesitation go than the lefty hesitation go, and I think it's a probably a plant foot quickness issue because I've had some left foot injuries. But the lefty hesitation elbow pull-up is sort of my signature shot (nobody likes to guard the mid-range jumper!), so I should probably focus on improving my lefty hesitation go... 🤔

Isaiah been doing that half spin move for so long, nobody seems to stop it. Seen high school highlights of him doing it and it still works now. Incredible to see. Good video and I'm so glad you chose to show that one

I've always think it's great to analyze great players moves. Great way to learn. Maybe you can continue this series but take some retro players and do the same thing with their moves. I truly believe it would be great to see you showing Michael Jordan, Barkley, Bird and many other players ways of getting buckets!

This was a great episode. You could make this into a new series, highlighting one player per episode. It'd be really good to show the players 'base' move, and then show how they execute their 'counter-move' if the base move is not on.

Isaiah's layups with the right hand jumping off the right foot are not only thought to throw off shotblockers' timing, primarily smaller and lighter guys use that kind of a layup because this way they can better lean into the defender who is on their left creating separation. If they jump off the left foot the defenders can easily push them of balance. Tony Parker is the master of the right foot right hand layup.

Gmac I'm not a hater, watch Carmelo closely on his post ups. If you can't spot it then you don't know bball. Lebron travels too i agree and so do many others.
@gmac33358 жыл бұрын
Ryan Jay Yes I'm a huge Melo fan, I know oftentimes he travels. Sometimes he gets called for it, sometimes he doesn't. Literally every star travels. Fact is Carmelo has one of the best offensive arsenals in the game. His jab step jumper is unstoppable and if you play him to close he can take you to the basket. He's also got a wet post fadeaway and a good up and under counter move, he's got a nice all around game.
@Jeffinator8 жыл бұрын
Gmac I agree he does best in the post with his quickness and offensive moves although the footwork isn't perfect, However as for his all around game i think he does quite poorly with shot selection and playing as a team. His defensive awareness is lacking too but the effort is there unlike Harden.

Hey coach, can you break down how Shaun Livingston has been so successful in the Rockets-Warriors series? I notice that he has such a different style than Steph, but the Warriors are still able to insert him in the starting lineup and not miss a beat. The righty hesitation go is one of my go-to moves! If a guy fails to force left but I can't quite get the right cleanly, I'll hit him with a hard cross and take off. If only I was a better finisher on the left and didn't have to finger roll middle or cut back to the right so often... 😜 Anyway, great video! 😊
@adriannacua35978 жыл бұрын
+Eric Place im a righty but my strong hand when it comes to finishing around the basket is my left. lol
@_ericplace8 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Nacua I would say "That's a good thing!" but that depends on how good your right hand is (perhaps you're really good with both, just better with the left!), whether or not you can shoot well fading to the right (I can't, but I can to the left from in close), and whether or not you can get lefty layups up on the right side (totally a hip/shoulder/timing thing). I'm only 5-10/135, and I've never been particularly dangerous from 3 with a hand in my face (few are), so on days when my quickness or rhythm isn't there I'm kinda limited as a scorer against good defenders. That's when passing becomes even more important. But when it comes down to it, the most important thing to me has always been having enough skill that competing is more fun than frustrating 😄
