The laser puzzle was my bane as a kid. I wasn’t yet old enough for math to teach me the concept of degrees, so I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing. Just that numbers made them move, and big numbers they moved more. I save scummed the hell out of that part every time, solving it by pure dumb luck for years.

I discovered years ago, that if you let the first droid (the one coming behind you when you just start the maze) tail you all the way to the elevator, then, slightly before it comes into view, go up the elevator, and then go back down the elevator just as it's going up, you can switch places with him, and he never bothers you again. :) Try it!

Random fan theory: what if the cyborg roaming the streets of Xenon is the Roger of that time period?
@spacequesthistorian
@spacequesthistorian 4 жыл бұрын
This has actually been a pretty popular theory since the old forum days in the mid 90s. People say the uniform sort of matches and that it explains why Roger Jr. is so reluctant to explain why Roger "wasn't available in this time period." The argument against it is, if Vohaul had turned Roger into a roaming cyborg, why would he need to take revenge on him in the past? He would already have gotten his revenge. What could be sweeter revenge than sending Cyborg Daddy on the hunt to find and kill his own rebel son?
@AidanMillward
@AidanMillward 4 жыл бұрын
@@spacequesthistorian good point. But it’s Vohaul, he could have got his revenge and then got his revenge AGAIN by getting Roger and chasing him across several time periods and killing him in front of his son, while watching the other roger roam aimlessly around the streets as a physical trophy. Or he could have gone back to Space Quest I and destroyed the Arcada after robbing the Star Generator knowing Rog was still alive on the ship. But that’s not how time travel works as the SQ XII Vohaul wouldn’t need to exist then 😂

starting from the beams original position the correct codes are 156 for first set of beams. 024 for second set of beams. 108 for third and last set of beams. this has to be done with the beams in the original angles. mess with it and you gotta figure it out through trial and error.

OMG, those laser codes are degrees?! I'll have to pray I was too young to have taken much geometry when I struggled and guessed my way through this. I don't remember if I clued into lower numbers causing less rotation or not, but I recall finding that going diagonally across the keypad gets one of the gates right, so I started looking for similar patterns, and rechecking the in game hint book in vain! I felt pretty proud for figuring out the cigar smoke though, that sped up the trial and error significantly!

Don't feel bad; I just keyed in random numbers the first two million times I played the game. It wasn't until many, many years later I realized they were degrees. You'll hear the flip side of the coin next Friday. Tl;dr: The mic didn't actually solve my problem, but thank you for noticing the less-noisy audio. :)

Roger's voice actor is pretty good I think, especially given that the role was given as a favor to him. He doesn't add much nuance most of the time, but I like how he does the final cutscene "my wife" - there's just enough awe mixed with his dufusness. Jr. though, he's just _baaad_ - best thing you can say about it is he sounds enough like Roger, but aren't we meant to believe he's a more competent rebel version? Even if he's meant to be a chip off the old dufus, or just in awe of meeting his (absent? dead?) father, he still sounds like he hasn't memorized his lines! Most of the bit parts were better - they could have gotten Scott Murphy, or Jane Jenson to do it. As it is, this scene played a lot more epicly in my head, on this disk version, with the only sound coming from the _Maestro,_ Ken Allen.

@spacequesthistorian 7 жыл бұрын
Stuart Moulder, the guy who does Roger Jr., was clearly just reading his lines, as he's not an actor. His Mobygames profile actually lists some impressive accomplishments -- after Sierra, he went to Microsoft in a managerial position and helped them acquire Bungie. Interestingly, that same profile omits his voice acting part in Space Quest IV, and it doesn't say anything about him being an artist, so I may have been wrong about that. www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,6024/

@MagusMarquillin
@MagusMarquillin 7 жыл бұрын
Doesn't make much sense - Roger Jr. has already saved you. It's in his and Roger's past, it's happened and still happens his body becomes Vohaul.
