Thank you for sharing! I just got mine today after watching your helpful review vid. A little something to add from my experience (using metric, "grams") is that the scale only measure by 10's. eg; I tried weighing my item on a tabletop digital scale which reads 2356g but the GO TRAVEL luggage scale only reads 2350g. Hope the information helps!

@@jerryteo8003 Yes, that's probably something I could have mentioned, but I didn't have accurate information. Thanks for the info! I think, basically, this scale is meant to weigh objects that are relatively heavy - like packed suitcases. And it is probably most accurate when weighing something in the 10-30 kilogram range or something like that. It's not really meant for weighing very small items - things that weigh just a couple of kilograms or less. I never did test it on small items because I don't have a table-top scale to compare it to. It's funny, though, that when I went to the airport, I found that this scale is more detailed than the airline scale. The airline scale only went to one decimal point. It weighed my backpack at 12.9 kilograms. But this GoTravel scale gave a reading of 12.89 kilograms. It goes to 2 decimal points. 🙂 But if you need accurate measurements of smaller items, I think you're right that it's better to use a dedicated tabletop scale like the one you have. This TravelGo scale just gives you a rough idea of what something weighs. It's not super super precise.

Than you for your presentation. It was real useful and it would have been tricky using the scal without your clear instructions. So grateful.

I've actually never had one before. That's probably why I reviewed it in such detail. Everything about this scale (and scales like it) was brand new to me. I used to have a very cheap mechanical scale that I bought in a hardware store for $1 or something like that. It was made of plastic and was filled with springs and mechanical levers. It only went up to a few pounds, and it showed the weight on a dial with arms - like a clock. It wasn't very accurate or useful. So I was pretty excited about this digital scale. I had no idea the technology had advanced such a long way.

I think I got a bit carried away with the details, didn't I? 😂 It was actually a bit of an experiment for me because I watch a lot of product review videos on KZbin, and almost every time, the reviewer doesn't mention some key fact about the product that is important to me. I end up watching the whole video and then I don't actually get the information I want and need. Or the reviewer will almost never show the product they're reviewing. They'll have the camera on their face the whole time instead of on the item. Or the important detail they're talking about will be out of focus or too dark and you can't see it. I was thinking about all this, and I didn't want to make any of those mistakes. So perhaps I overcompensated by including everything I learned about this scale and scales in general. 😀

You're welcome. For what it's worth, I'm still using this scale today regularly, and it's been banging around in my backpack and knapsack all this time and it still works fine. I'm still pleased with it for all the reasons I brought up in this video. I don't see any reason to change my mind about it. The one thing I do wish it could do is flip from Imperial to Metric more easily. I'd like to be able to weigh something in pounds and then just push a button to see that same weight in kilograms. But this scale won't do that. To get the two measurements, you'd have to weigh your bag once using metric measurements and then change the setting to Imperial and then weigh it again. If I remember right, some other models were able to switch back and forth easily AFTER you weighed the bag. They would just convert from Metric to Imperial and back again. But I still like this one because it is so lightweight and uses the cloth strap instead of a big metal hook to attach a bag. I like that.

I just ended up spending more time here than I planned. Hopefully, on my next visit I can break free of Kuala Lumpur and see more of the country.

@PlanetDoug5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's important for these scales to be accurate. I noticed in my testing that this model was consistent at least. It gave exactly the same weight for the same bag every time I used it. So that gives me some confidence that it works well. But the true test will be if it matches what the airport and airline scales say. I'll be going to the airport this week, and I hope to do a simple test. I will weigh my backpack right before I go to the check-in counter. And then I will see if it matches what their scale says. Of course, if the two measurements are different, I won't know which one is right and which one is wrong. Maybe the airport scale is wrong. But for someone like me, it won't make any difference. I'm flying on Air Asia, and the weight limit for me is 20kg (44 pounds). I'm pretty sure my backpack won't weigh nearly that much. So even if there is a difference of a pound or two between the two scales, I still won't be over the limit. But a lot of people try to carry as much as possible (especially if they are returning home with lots of souvenirs), and they try to get their bags as close to the limit as possible without going over. For them, a scale like this would be very handy - assuming it is accurate. 🙂
@PlanetDoug5 жыл бұрын
When I got to the airport, I weighed my backpack, and it came to 12.89 kilograms. And when I checked it in, the airline scale measured 12.9 kilograms. So it was very accurate. The weight was basically identical between the two.

@PlanetDoug5 жыл бұрын
I planned out a pretty in-depth review of this backpack, but I might not have the time to actually do it before my trip to Myanmar. It's also a bit complicated to do in terms of talking about a feature of the backpack and then showing it on video. It's not as easy as just holding a tiny luggage scale in front of the camera lens. 😃 It might even be better to do it in Myanmar when I'm actually using the backpack. I'll have to wait and see if I find the time to do it.

Yup, I totally agreed with what you said. Review the bag after you have used it, then you can provide accurate information based on your experience.

No, nothing like that. 🙂 I just wanted to buy a scale. I had never had a scale like this before, so I thought it was interesting - not just this particular scale but this type of scale in general and how they are designed and how they work. And I made this video as kind of an experiment. I was curious how difficult (or easy) it is to make a product review video. It turns out that it is actually pretty hard - especially if you don't already have a studio set up for this kind of thing. But it was fun to do.
@mohdk22995 жыл бұрын
If you're reviewing a smartphone, it could be 3 hours long 😂. But it's good, we don't have to watch a lot of other reviewers just to check some features we want to know. As travelling to Myanmar is very near, would like you know your transportation there. I guess you abandoned the plan to buy a bicycle there with that kind of backpack.
@PlanetDoug5 жыл бұрын
This video was something of an experiment. 😃 As I wrote elsewhere, I have strong feelings about KZbin product reviews, especially when the reviewer fails to give me the information I'm looking for. So when I decided to try to make my own video about this scale, I guess I went a bit crazy and included every single piece of information I could find. That's how my mind works, especially when it comes to technology. I recently became interested in picking up a special mount or two for my GoPro, and I went online and watched all the KZbin video reviews of these products that I could find. But when I went out and bought these two products, I discovered that there were all kinds of facts missing from those reviews. These mounts have a lot of features and problems and design elements that not a single person mentioned in all the reviews I watched. I find that annoying. What's interesting to me is that even the packaging for this luggage scale actually provided zero information. Even if you went to the store to look at it and read the packaging carefully, you'd still have no idea how it worked. If I knew, for example that it held the weight measurement in memory for only five seconds, I probably wouldn't have bought it. For me, that is a deal breaker. But I didn't know that until after I read it and tried it out and read the full online instructions. And, weirdly enough, the online instructions are themselves incomplete and somewhat out of date. So I feel a bit justified in making such a long and detailed video. 😂 If I do something like this again, though, I think I'll try to make it a bit shorter and snappier. I actually started to make a video review of the Osprey backpack, but it was becoming so technical and detailed that I gave up. I was too tired to keep going, especially since my "studio" is my cramped and stifling guest house room. As for Myanmar, I don't have any transportation lined up in advance. My plan is to take the local trains as much as possible, and I'll just buy the tickets as I go. And if there is no train available, I'll look for something else, probably buses. To be honest, I haven't even fleshed out an itinerary for where I'll be going. I have a list of places I want to visit, but I don't know in what order I'll go there and how long I'll stay in each place. Play it by ear, I guess.
