I’m about to step into the role of being the world‘s first Digi-Natural Nomad. Starting in the spring, I will be traveling around the country interviewing people for a documentary about my father and also teaching people the skills of our ancient ancestors used to live in relative harmony with a natural world a corporate sponsor has gotten a Starlink, and I just recently got my yeti 1000 X and I also have a yeti 500. My last Landlord gave me the battery bank expansion module to connect to acid batteries, but the only thing that came with it was a rectangular box with some insertion points and two wires in a micro USB cables coming out did he only give me part of the kit. Part of my new lifestyle includes live streaming my online nature classes from very remote places, and I’m gonna need the power and have an extra battery reservoir tank will be amazing. I plan on using the yeti 500 as the primary power source for my 23zero rooftop tent.

Is this the system that will allow the vehicle's alternator to charge the Yeti aux battery as you drive, or is that something additional that has to be added? If the former is correct, don't you need a switch of some kind to keep the aux battery from completely draining the vehicle's battery when the vehicle is not running, leaving you without a way to start your van?

so that positive terminal can be attached to the alternator as opposed to the battery if desired

That’s why you set it from tank mode to vehicle mode. Vehicle mode only charges the yeti when some minimum voltage threshold is met (say, 13.6 that you would only see when your vehicle is running). Tank mode continuously draws until either the goal zero is full or the charging battery is dead (not good when you rely on your car battery to start the vehicle).

Do you have to change between modes every time you drive?

Nope! Once it's set to vehicle mode, it will stay that way unless it's manually changed again.
