Goalie Cam: Any Ice Time is Good Ice Time

I got the call to sub for an old teammate's team, and I needed to break-in the pads, so I'm not exactly choosy about my ice time right now. As I've always said: any ice time is good ice time! I didn't play my best, and a large part of that was the quality of shots, but nonetheless I had some fun with some old teammates and got some more puck marks on the CCM Extreme Flex IIIs! Enjoy!

I see you poking the puck a lot. If that's your style of play that's fine, but one of these days you're gonna miss, or get outmuscled, or maybe just plain unlucky. So if you're gonna do that that's fine, but just in case you miss stay in the butterfly and follow the puck. But that's just my opinion

That's absolutely right. But I honestly only poke at it as a way to freak out shooters, not to actually get the puck. That's why I do it so early. What I'm trying to do is tempt them to try to go glove side or miss the puck entirely. Watching back on some videos it seems after I do it, more often than not they never get a shot off, and very rarely do they score on it. Your opinion is absolutely fair, though!

You looked a tad uninterested. Not knocking you.... I was like that with a slow group last night. I was into it but the slow groups just don't get my adrenaline going like the fast groups do.

Agree 100%! These slower groups really affect the way I play, and I don't like it. I become lazy in my movements and positioning. But I need the puck marks right now, so I'll take what I can get, ha!

Great question. I have another game video maybe I'll do a narration on. Some goalies like it, others find it annoying. It's really polarizing. Maybe I'll release the same video twice, one with and one without. Stay tuned!

why don't you ever use the T-push? also, saw in your last vid (the livestream) that you use the Bauer reactor 6000 skates. I'm thinking about buying the 7000's ones, would you recommand it? thanks!

This is a question I often yet. There's a lot of debate here because I'm not a fan of the t-push. Some goalies use it, others don't, some just in certain situations. In my opinion a t-push puts your leg pad out of position, so I prefer not to use it. For the Bauer skates, I LOVED my 6000s. The 7000s are more like a senior model of those, so I can't imagine you can go wrong with them. I'd recommend it!

I understand your point and I agree, but IMO the t-ush is much faster than repeated shuffles. Also, if you t-push, one leg is out of position but the other one is already placed. If you move your entire body, I feel like you get your entire body out of position instead of just your pad, but that's my view on it, I guess you just use what makes you feel comfortable! Thanks!
