Last nights game between the Edmonton Oilers and the San Jose Sharks was a fun game but of a wild one and one that wasn’t so great for the officiating crew. See, we saw a record setting four thats right, 4 successful coaches challenges and whatever that James Reimer tackling Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was. It reminded me of Tim Thomas back in 2011 when he drilled Sedin! Anyway, we’ve got a lot to cover today so I hope you enjoy todays NHL hockey recap!

The Oilers actually focused on improving their instant replay teams effectiveness among other areas of the team like scouting and medical staff when the new management was hired. There was a notable improvement. Especially the past 2 seasons. The Oilers were in the basement for 10 years due to poor management in multiple departments in the franchise.

Both offsides were correct but can agree both interference calls kind of soft. Remember a playoff run for oilers where guy(kessler) was sitting on our goalie pads and goal was called good.
@blazerorb

@@UntarWow I also think the interference calls were really weak. And as an Oiler’s fan, this win with three goals getting called back feels so unsatisfying that I’d almost rather we lost. The tie breaker is just that losing to a team tanking for Bedard is extra painful. But I don’t know how I’d define a goalie interference penalty that could be called more consistently and with less referee discretion. One problem seems to be the quite different goalie interference standards between referees, who are making calls on-ice in real-time, vs the guys upstairs, who basically are forced to call things to the strictest standard. The guys upstairs have the same recordings that everyone else does, so the leeway a ref is given doesn’t apply to them, and they have to call to the rulebook. My ideas for discussion are: - Reduce the size of the crease. - Make goaltender interference a non-reviewable penalty - Make the goaltender interference review up to the refs, ie give them a screen to watch it so that they can decide themselves whether they would have called it with a better view. Might increase consistency with on-ice calls. And teams’ review people can’t be as sure about referee discretion as they can about to-the-letter decisions from upstairs, so they’ll gamble on reviews less.
@jordacheamistad3748
@jordacheamistad3748 Жыл бұрын
All 4 goals were called with objectivity, despite the "soft" appearance of the interference calls. In both interference calls, the offensive player was in the blue paint before the puck entered the area. The goalie was unable to properly react or play to their ability because the offending player was in the blue paint. Couture literally prevented Campbell from cutting the angle down on a shot from a high danger area. His body was where Campbell was needing to be to stop that shot to the best of his ability. Couture interfered with Campbell's ability to play his position in a way that circumvented the rules. If Hyman had not preceded the puck in that moment, there wouldn't have been a goal to call back. As far as who deserved to win, the goals that counted decided the game not the goals that didn't count. Also, the oilers outshot the sharks badly and out chanced them in grade A chances and shot attempts. Then there's the non call on Reimer trying to get the double leg on Nuge. I think the final score matched the game on the ice.

I'm assuming the reason for the no call in front of the net is because from that corner, he can't see the arm of the goalie from where hes positioned. If I was the ref in that corner, I would have assumed that the goalie had his glove up trying to block the backhand shot and the skater just lost balance. If he was in the other corner it would have been called easy. But in the highest level of professinal hockey, that was probably too blatant to go uncalled.

The ref in the corner only saw the backs of the players, and didn’t see Reimer’s arm around the front of N-H. I’ve been saying for years that the on-ice officials can’t see enough, and an off-ice official (whether in the stands, or in an office in Toronto) are needed to have more accurate calls. One day, AI will officiate games, but until then, the officiating will suck.

In my opinion if a goalie is the purpose of contact outside of the crease it’s interference. If it’s the players fault you have goalie interference. Stay tuned tho, this could turn out to be a thing in the nhl. Although I feel goalies care about their health a bit more than that.

The refs job is to keep the game flowing so it doesn’t become to slow. Just imagine if they called every infraction the game would be so boring and take forever to finish. Back when there was only one official and two linesman the games were long and lots of stoppages, most games were three hours or longer, now most are over in two half hours. However the reasoning for adding the second official was to improve the quality of the calls, and reduce the time it took to play a game, it seems to have worked to a point, but now the players are becoming so fast it’s hard for the refs to keep up, even to stay out of the way is getting impossible without impacting the play. LOL, I can see the game evolving (20-50-100 years) to some form of no lines meaning no offsides, just wide open play, no linesman required, no on ice officials as off ice official will make the calls, and drones will retrieve and drop the puck. Just kidding, the game is not perfect but it was never meant to be or it wouldn’t be so darn exciting to watch.

Shouldn't that have been called a poke-check kind of thing by a rymer and if the goalie doesn't make contact with the puck at first it's a penalty, but either way it was definitely a hold, this is what I've been talking about lately the NHL is all over the place with its officiating and it's becoming laughable slew foot by Victor Hedman this. Excetera I think the NHL's needs to hire some new refs or sit them all down in the same room and have a discussion cuz this is becoming a problem and becoming worse and worse every game it seems like you hear something now that was so obvious but yet no calls no nothing, and I really don't know about that goaltender interference call considering he didn't impede the goalie's save it was bouncing all over like you said twice, so did he impeed on the first bound, Did he impeed on the second bounced Did he imped at all? I personally don't think that player standing there had anything to do with him making the Save or not too hard to dm with the puck bouncing twice or more doesn't look like he actually stops the goalie from coming over more like the goalie saw the puck bounced and tried to react which therefore isn't the players fault so how can you deem any of that wouldn't that Define under the classification of inconclusive, it's also becoming really shity that you can't even celebrate at first when your team scores you got to wait to see till the face off after the goal to see if the coach is going to challenge or not so take half the fun out of the game

I love the part where the Sharks' commentator says some crap like 'I dunno what they'd even call there, it's his crease and he didn't do anything wrong'. It's one thing to be paid to give commentary for your specific team and it's another altogether to be an idiot. Honestly, do any fans appreciate this type of commentary? Rather than say something so stupid how about not commenting on it or maybe laugh about how they get away with one....

Nope. Thomas should've gotten a penalty. You can pick and choose.
