He has an aquarium as well somewhere in Verna with several rare fishes. Coincidently mine and His Kuldaivat is Mahalasa Narayani of Mardol Ponda district. I do see him sometimes in the temple in Mardol. You must have tried their Serra Durra too. I think its the best I have had in Goa.

The thalis look great, but I wonder why the restaurant owner has decided to add "Portuguese" to the names of the dishes when they are no more Portuguese than at any other Goan restaurant. Even the origin of these dishes is from elsewhere: Cafreal comes from Africa; Xacuti is Goan Hindu; Balchao is inspired from Indonesia. No point in crediting the Portuguese with our own Goan culinary inventions! Finding actual Portuguese food in Goa is practically impossible, except maybe for serradura, which is pretty much like the one made in Portugal.

Cafreal and balchao came to Goa from Portuguese colonies in Africa and Malacca so the name is quite appropriate

@@lesleyingoa By that logic, in Mumbai, they sell Portuguese pav bhaji, and in Calcutta, Portuguese Roshogola and shondesh. In the USA, all burgers would be German hamburgers, and in Pakistan and Bangladesh, all dishes are just Indian food. All biryanis should be called Persian biryani, and all samosas called Uzbek samosas. Food always has a history, but there comes a time where that food becomes local food and has basically no resemblance to what it was inspired from. Anyway, not being argumentative - just food for thought from a fan!

Balchao and Cafreal came to Goa due to the Portuguese. The african soldiers were somehow called Cafirs and the meat that they used to barbeque on the banks of Mandovi got the name Cafreal. So in a way these soldiers were brought here by the Portuguese . I believe Portuguese used to trade the spices from Indonesia too. At the same time we cannot forget that The Poi or the Paav as it is called in Mumbai is because of the Portuguese. They taught the Bharatiyas to make the Paav. Although I agree that its not completely Portuguese but it seems to be a marketing gimmick .
