Jim - we are the beneficiaries of your trip that didn’t go as planned! Thank you! Just an absolutely gorgeous place - I can easily see why you wanted to get out there!

It’s so stunning. No matter how many times I visit I’m still in awe.

Gah that place is beautiful! This was such a great edit, Jim. Some good nuggets of info too for when a trip just isn’t as awesome. 👊🏻

Thanks! It happens. Probably more often than we’re willing to admit. Haha. I still had a fantastic time, it just wasn’t what I planned. 🤷♂️

Very nice, Jim. My takeaway from this. Even when trips don’t go as planned you’re still in the beautiful outdoors. It sure beats sitting on the couch.✌️

Agreed!! I still got two nights under the stars, and time on trail. Those are always good things.

I love this. I also think it's helpful to think about how you would've felt about the trip you ended up taking had you planned it that way to begin with. If you had planned to exit where you did, you'd have seen this as a great accomplishment and the frustration wouldn't be present. This helps me a LOT because 90% of my struggles on hikes have to do with expectations I had for the hike rather than the hike itself. Really beautifully done video, Jim!

Thank you. I think it’s important to share the not so great moments along side the successes. I think all too often we let our ego drive us into situations that could end badly. It’s hard to admit we’ve taken on more than we can handle, but it’s a valuable skill to learn.

The day I spent in the heart of Desolation on my recent TRT thru hike will forever be one the best days of my life. Thanks for sharing, and allowing me to relive it. I'm planning a trip out west next year to hike the Timberline and Lost Coast Trails back to back... So finding your channel has been an awesome resource and inspiration for me.

Those were my two favorite hikes this year! Both trails are incredible!

@@LostAgainwithJim do you think there are any weather concerns for either trail in early October? That's the soonest LCT permit I could get.
@LostAgainwithJim2 жыл бұрын
@@papertiger795 LCT being right on the coast the weather could be unpredictable. Keep a close eye on the tide charts. Those will make or break your trip. We did Timberline the last week of Sept this year and the weather was perfect. It is the PNW, so rainy season is right around Oct.
@papertiger7952 жыл бұрын
@@LostAgainwithJim thanks! An early season snow dump on the Timberline is my only real concern. But that sounds unlikely. Looking forward to your next video!

What an absolutely stunning place for a spur of the moment trip! I can’t wait to explore it with my best buddy! I love how you intertwined the stories of past hikes into the places you visited in this hike.

I had the same mentality for my TCT thru hike attempt. Tried to push on the ego moreso than my better judgement. I'm glad the wife made you think differently about it! Awesome! And crazy how some backpackers come off so strong. I think most of them are coming from a good place but don't understand that we all go about it differently and there isn't one best way to do it.

Yeah. She’s pretty smart haha. Definitely helped me look at the situation from a different perspective. I want to believe people are coming at it from a good place, but sometimes people are just jerks.

This trip was last October, just before we got hammered with all the snow. But holy cow did we have a snow year.

No snow? You’re in shorts! 🤷🏻♀️ How odd. Maybe he’d been on the trail too long. 😂. Great video!

It snowed the weekend after this trip haha. That’s pretty typical for Nevada/Northern California. 80° one week, 50° and snowy the next.

Indeed, unsolicited advice is the worse...try hiking with a dog...and when he is off-leash...everyone seems to want to share his or her opinion...even in the middle of nowhere... You do you and have fun while doing it!! Making good memories is what it is all about! Take good care now...Bruce and Otis

When was this recorded? I would've thought there'd be lot of snow.
@LostAgainwithJim2 жыл бұрын
This trip was mid October this year. The snow came about two weeks later at the start of November. I had 60° days and overnight lows in the 30’s while I was out. And two weeks later (give or take), highs are in the 40s and lows are in the 20s.

Great flexibility and recognizing what your body is telling you. I don't know if I could do 20 miles at elevation starting out on the first full day and having a successful trip. Love the wifey's positivity, too. Sometimes you just need a mental correction.

In my heart I still feel like I’m a twenty something haha. Sometimes my body just needs to remind me I’m 50.
