It was interesting to see you show the changes in flight. I generally prefer the lower end of the rpm scale for rc helis. They look more graceful then (in the right hands of course) - more like a ballet than salsa (nothing against salsa!)

That would be useful to obtain a realistic scale appearance on other helicopters. For reference, the rotor of a Bell UH-1 only turns at 324 rpm.

Can I ask what flybarless controller you are using? I bought the 770 for low headspeed, big air and I cannot stop it nodding below 1500RPM with the Spartan VX1N. It is fine at 1600RPM+. I added the HPS2 head and 3 blade tail and tried SAB 770 and Align 780 blades (the main reason for the 3 blade plus 105mm tail blades to ensure clearance) but nothing stops the nodding and it gets worst if I lower the headspeed further to say 1350, so not just a resonance problem?
@SimoneZunterer
@SimoneZunterer 5 жыл бұрын
i use the graupner fbl in all my helis. the nodding that you describe is also visible in some of my helis at low rpm (my black thunder does this at 1300). its something that you can maybe get rid of by using softer dampeners or playing around with the rpm. but mainly its a typical thing that just happens. you only see it when hovering so just fly and dont overthink it

Hello Simone . Did you test with 950 , 900 , 850 rpm ? I have a Shape S8 with asymetric blades / 12 s . I should like to fly with 850 rpm or 900 rpm ( for only a realist flights ) : is it possible ? Thank you , and a nices flights for you .

@SimoneZunterer 2 жыл бұрын
I only tested what you can see in the video. In my opinion the heli is a bit too heavy to fly it with ultra low rpm. Also be careful when getting into the rpm range where it gets into self-resonance and begins to shake like crazy :/

1700rpm with a 800size machine is a lot, considering that you dont wanna do hardcore stuff. depending on the heli i would say between 1000-1200 is a very good rpm for flying relaxed soft 3d

theres no need to write in capslock, please...its just exhausting for the eyes to read kontronik escs are super high quality and in my personal opinion it should work for a 700 scale machine. although it is not really possible to give a good opinion about it as i do not like to give "distance diagnositics" i cannot guarantee that it works as you expect, i just say that i THINK it should work with a 700size. i would recommend to NOT fly it with a 6s battery. a very lightweight 700size trainer can be flown with that, but a scale machine with a multirotor head and a lot of weight will drag a lot of current. this will make your motor and esc overheat and kill your batteries very quickly. consider doing a 10-12s setup please

@@waynegetkate9315hey wayne. i cant really answer that to 100% as i dont know all the details. in general you need to calculate 6channels for your regular heli to work. then every additional function (lights, landing gear, cranes etc etc) needs an additional channel. but that also depends on the type of landing gear you wanna use. i am not an expert in scale stuff and i am not very familiar with all the functional extras there are on the market and how they work. the safest way would be to ask your local dealer and show him what you wanna use

@@SimoneZuntererYou musst remember that the Radio is important. It is not only for scale flying, it is for 3D & F3C. I don't want a Radio under 8 channels, but the Graupner mz 9 channel should operate Landing gear. Maybe you can ask some one about the two graupner Radios. that always depends on what you wanna do. if you want to fly hardcore 3d with only 6s you will have higher current on the battery which results in shorter lifespan. also you will have to take care if the motor and esc overheat as they have to work a bit harder. but if you want to fly smooth and slow it shouldnt make any big difference. in the worst case you still can change the pinion. in my video here i just did that as a test. i will still fly it with 12s in the future

Talk about a "can of worms" This whole discussion about "cell-count" is a hype that is showing manny rc pilots know little about the science behind flying helicopters. For a helicopter to fly it needs lift. Lift is a form of energy (hugely simplified) This energy has to come from somewhere; with electric its the batteries. Energy can be defined by "watt hour" (energy multiplied by time) Times thousand you get "kilo" watt hour and that is what you can find on your electricity bill. Watt is current (ampere) times potential (volt) This means that a potential of one volt times a current of 10 ampere is the same amount energy as 10 volt at one ampere. Both give 10 watt So your 12s pack that is rated 44.4 volt at 50 ampere gives the same power as a 6s pack (22.2) at 100 ampere You used the same motor and gearing and that is why your heli performed different. The electric motors we used have a "kv" constant. This is how fast it turns (rpm) for each volt So the kv of the motor times the pack voltage is how fast the motor will turn at full power. That combined with the gear ratio pinion/main gear dictates your maximum head speed. If you would have changed the motor to one with a kv that is double of the one you use on 12s then you would have had the same performance on 6s as you have on 12 s OR if you had changed the motor pinion to one with twice the number of teeth. So why higher cell counts if lower voltages should work as well in theory, Resistance. Resistance in ohm is potential (volt) divided by current (amp) So if you take a one volt battery and put a one ohm resistor over it you get a current of one amp. But there is more; Remember one amp times one volt is one watt So you are taking one watt of power out of that battery. That power has to go somewhere and most of the times that becomes heat. This is why motors esc and batteries get hot. They have internal resistance and when current flows trough them they get warm. When you use 12s instead of 6s the current for the same amount of power is halved. So the amount of heat as a result of internal resistance is also halved. The energy that is not changed into heat can be used to power the motor/ helicopter. There is also something called "wake turbulence" and that is why 3blade rotors/ props are much less efficient then 2 blade so by installing a 3 blade tail you mad the efficiency of your helicopter even worse. Longer tail blades would have been better if you had a way to avoid those blades hitting the ground or main blades. If you really want to go for efficient try single blade ; use a counter weight to balance the blade. Then this single blade hits less (or no) turbulence of the blade "in front of it" Search for a guy called "night flyer" ; he shown how its done on his channel. Again disclaimer; all of the above is simplified
@SimoneZunterer

thanks for the info. i am well aware of all that you wrote above, so its not new for me. of course, if you would like to build a 770 that performs perfectly with a special set of batteries i would recommend to find the fitting motor, esc, gear ratio etc. unfortunately it seems you didnt listen to my explanation at the beginning of the video. the whole point of the experiment idea was NOT to change anything and see how it turns out
@cmulder002
@cmulder002 6 жыл бұрын
did you measure the current and how hot your motor and esc got? "all else remaining equal" it should have needed twice the current as before causing the motor and esc to get warmer. See how your experience is matching theory By the way did you feel that the heli was much less responsive? Also that "chirping" sound of the blades; while i don't know for sure i assume they are close to stalling leaving a rather small useful pitch range (speaking from experience with a raptor 30 and a poor running engine) Anyway nothing broke and you learned something :)
