Amazes me how you can do a 20 minute video on a folding bike without actually folding and unfolding it 😂

Agreed, that's one of the things I was hoping to see!

Had the opportunity to try a G4 when taking my four year old GS in for a service. The new motor is amazing, pulls really strongly and coupled with the bike’s ergonomics makes for a fun ride. The 20” inch wheels narrow handlebars and upright stance make it an ideal city commuter. BTW I have used my GoCycle pretty much daily for the past four years - including in foul winter weather - and it hasn’t missed a beat. This is a solid reliable workhorse and takes London’s appalling roads (potholes) in its stride.
@rafalima2 жыл бұрын
I live in London and I'm really considering getting the G4. You seem very pleased with your GS. Also pleases me to see that you have a 4 year old model and have been able to get service on it as well
@Funinhounslow2 жыл бұрын
@@rafalima definitely. This was a significant purchase and it’s reassuring to know support is there if required. A “fly by night” company they aren’t… Only issue with the GS is that it attracts attention and it can’t really be locked outside unattended for anything other than a brief period. Of course this is not a problem with the fast folding models. The G4 moves the game on significantly- the new motor is remarkable. It’s pricey but you get what you pay for and will save a fortune on tube and cab fares…

@@Funinhounslow thanks for the reply. The price and all proprietary parts were the only thing that kept me looking for other models, but I looked at trustedpilots reviews and a lot of "brands" are not even there. More over, the ones that are there, have 50% of bad reviews. However, the GoCycle has been consistent in everything that I saw or read. I did a test ride yesterday on a G4 at London Bridge (Fully Charged store) and it was amazing, I just wanted to keep riding it. I also rode a Brompton ebike, HORRIBLE. Small wheels, not as easy for quick, sharp moviments. The battery is a Swytch conversion that you need to stop to change the mode. Their folding feature is amazing and shaped the market, but their £2800+ ebike is just a cheap conversion. Regarding leaving the G4 outside, I only intend to leave it locked outside for very short periods (like to buy clothes in a store or something that requires both hands). The people at Fully Charged suggested me to remove the battery and lock it folded with a lock like a litelock gold (this way more parts are locked). I also already have insurance for my Whyte hybrid and I will extend it to the GoCycle definitely, for peace of mind. thanks again

Potholes you say? You've never seen potholes till you've been to the Northeast US. Roads are TERRIBLE
@JimFung2 жыл бұрын
I think this review was too generous about the hill climb and the loss of motor power. Yes, protecting itself from overheating is great, but the small motor size probably means reduced heat dissipation and performance under high load. I test rode the G4i in San Francisco and rode it up a *much* steeper hill than the one in this video. What I found was that on steeper hills, I needed to lean over the front wheel to avoid wheel slippage and with even with pedaling, I lost motor power after about 15 or 20 seconds of climbing. The G4i was probably a bit worse in this situation because it has an electronic shifter that also made the situation worse when it changed gears suddenly when the motor gave up. This is a great ebike for most people. It's incredibly light, the folding mechanism is amazing, and it's very stylish. On the smaller hills I rode before trying the steep one, I thought it rode very well and its climbing performance was strong. So if you're not needing to climb very steep hills, you're probably going to be happy with the G4.

any thoughts on a folding e-bike that would be good on San Francisco hills?

For the price they should have a better display, functional app, and obvious basics should be included like mudguards, kickstand, and front and back lights. Plus they should sell brake pads.
@helenbenjafield73512 жыл бұрын

Another thing at that price it comes with a chain and not a belt that is longer lasting and almost maintenance free! It's an ideal set up for belt drive.

i think in this context the single side forks are so it can fold up to a more narrow profile. the folded up size is very impressive

I like the fold ability stance of the bike. It is truly compact, and one can even forget it is in the corner as it won’t be in the way at all. Heck you can even out it between your legs on a commute, and it not be a big bother to your overall comfort. It’s also a good looking bike with well integrated components. I don’t know if it is me, or the seat to the peddle seems like a peddle forward bike which is comfortable for sure, but one is going to not be bothered by it psychologically. I went to check the price, and in my opinions it is way too over priced to actually sell like hot cakes if you will. Lol Around a grand, and even better several hundred below would of peaked waaay more buyers. There are many other similar bikes out there for literally 4-10 times lower in price that fit the bill with great looks and performance. I wish them luck, but I couldn’t see myself spending that amount on a bike that doesn’t absolutely Wow me.

What ebikes available in USA with similar weight, 500W motor, compact folding size are selling for $400?! I have been searching all ebikes available in USA and cannot find one for $400 with the same benefits as the G4. Closest one is Carbo, but no local dealer. The local GoCycle dealer, who is a eBike-only, says G4 is selling well.
@joea.87682 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the Brompton eBike. It is 1-2kg lighter and same or higher priced than G4.

Depends you wont find many other carbon fibre light frames folding bikes about if any but loads of other ebikes have alot more power. I own a Fiido M21 which i reccomend having alook at their bikes, alot of other similar good makes around aswell do your research and have a really good look around. If i had to advise you i would say find a 500w e-bike, thats enough to ride without being ridiculously slow or quick.

I’ve never known anyone who bought a gocycle who didn’t regret it after a few months use. Overpriced, underpowered and absolutely ONLY for use on decent roads. The warranty does not even cover semi-smooth tracks or footpaths - a guy in our office ran over a small pothole, cracked the front alloy immediately and was told it wouldn’t be covered by his warranty!
@unoriginalname34426 ай бұрын
Y’all gotta stop with the “urban bikes don’t need to climb hills” bit. San Francisco is one of the most common places where you’d want a lightweight, folding ebike to avoid theft and to bring up flights of stairs. And that city is hilly as.

It don't matter for a bike that cost $4000 it should be able to go up that hill with ease. Only worth $1500 category if you ask me.

It's an e-bike not a motorcycle, meaning that you need to move your legs. You put the speed shift in 1 and hit the pedals and you will be able to climb any hill with a minimal effort.

Aventon and AddMotor have been crushing it lately with their value offerings (Rad Power has gone stale and Sondors went premium). Also, just saw a Lectric TV commercial this morning .... aired around 2pm Sunday June 19th on Spectrum Cable in Central Florida....I think Lectric "knows" their potential customers and understands the future of e-bike mass marketing ... I see "boutique" brands like Go Cycle appealing to poseurs and people with more money than sense...to me it's a (waaaaaay) overpriced, ugly, underpowered, impractical, circus-looking toy.

Yes, you could spend thousands of dollars on an eBike kzbin.infoUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ and get something much higher quality. However, if you're looking for a basic model to try out eBiking this is a great choice. The assembly is easy as far as bikes go (took about an hour for me to do, I'm not an expert). All tools needed are included. I added the plastic mud guards you see and a more comfortable seat. The other reviews are correct that you're probably going to want a better seat (Giddy Up! Bike Seat is what I got - super comfortable). The battery easily handles a 2-4 hour ride if you add some of your own pedal power. I haven't even gotten it up to top speed yet - it is very fast. Components are not top of the line, but decent for the price and work just fine. It works great on dirt roads and singletrack and pavement although too heavy to do tricks or any serious technical mountain biking. I'm looking forward to using it a lot over the summer. Tons of fun!
