He was making a pun. I didn't understand at first. A Comedian would say, "There's a divinity that shapes our ends rough, hew them as we may." As in the theorized deity wants to make our ends difficult and toilsome, no matter how we try to steer the course. Whereas the real line from Hamlet says, "There's a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them as we may." The meaning of this original line is that no matter how we try to roughly carve out the shape of our lives, God controls that shape ultimately. The difference between the two lines is really where the comma is placed.
