We have a twelve year old Golden now (he just came to me while I'm typing this to say Hi). I know that one day in the not too distant future he will no longer be with us and it brings silent tears to my eyes a couple of times each week. I am older now and can't get out and walk him like I used to but his mom still walks him each day. I don;t want to think about life without my buddy - they are the absolute best!!

I see dogs serving as proxy friends for different species. Dogs are an adaptable animal. When walked for exercise, I carried "Bacon Bits" and gave them to dogs I met. The dogs were polite and appreciative.
