But 'twas an "anthem" that was sung loudly and "belovedly" by every inner-city, live-music-pub custodian (in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth- I think?, Hobart- they tell me?!) for decades from the 1980's to 2000's- we all knew it and would often sing it, after ANY gig (along with Swampland by The Scientists, She's Hit by The Birthday Party Dip Stick by X and other "sleazy" hits like these, from The Saints, Go-Betweens, Tactics, Died Pretty...etc.). You know.... obscure enough but better known and great songs from a vibrant underground/alternative music scene AND STILL better known songs than your friend's or flat-mate's band (who often still had great, memorable songs from bands that occasionally became "huge").....? In those days, we did not know what genre of music, this was!? Alternative? Just music!

Forgot to include the almost redundant comment here: This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. The singing is honest, clean + authentic. The bass gets inside my skeleton. And the drums are perfect at every turn. The drummer made very, very good lightning-quick choices. That voice is deep considering his age, raspy too; love a deep voice. It's all brilliant.

Like to say GOD 💚 were exceptional for the fact if it wasn't for the late great Tim Hemensley there would be no GOD I knew Tim and was before his time and very talented young man just like the rest of the band whom were great song writers and were part of my life I came from the early punk underground scene when seminal rats were like them young and euthiasium before them was royal flush where Tim Hemensley and Roman Tucker started. I mean Tim picked up a bass at ten years old. I was in my early 20's when GOD started so some of my friends were listening to them like the same age the band were I am talking about 14 to 15 year Olds I learnt a thing or two and so thankyou to GOD for getting young teenagers to get out there and start playing music and I pay tribute to those passing talent of Tim Hemensley who went onto Bored ♥️ and powder monkeys. Sean Greenway more notable for Yesmen both of pure talented musicians. Still today Joel silbersher one of my favourite song writers with the ever revolving musician of his genre with Hoss and Matty whittle still playing the gig circuit and have respect here too so yes my pal has been covered by so many bands because of its youthful teenager angst. We had GOD 💚 so proudly wearing my tishirt and they were super great live for their days those POW gigs what an era of more than thirty five years and glad of it. We had it so good and today this song is one of the iconic songs from those days like cosmic pyschos with custom credit and Bored ♥️ with little Suzie all stand out for their influence on other bands including overseas . Long live our music scene ♥️

An Australian epic. I heard 3 of the band members had died I the early 90's. I saw the base guitarist when he was lead singer of the Powder Monkey's: I gave him a pipe with hash in it & he smoked it & started rocking, the place went off. Adelaide Uni bar. When you could smoke dope like it was tobacco.(tobacco back then , not now ☠)... These guys were light years before their time. Nirvana copied these legends. I recommend PersecutionBlues by Powder Monkeys if you like awesome Australian Melbourne 90's band music you could see for $12 if they were from interstate. The Mark of Cain , Cosmic Psychos. Beer , cones & if ya lucky some pussy. Life is good.
