I've gotta be real with you, this playlist is more or less a playlist made to build the hype for Anubis's face reveal, just until the official English translation comes out at least. If the leaks of manhwa raws implications are correct, we should be expecting a lovestruck Anubis completely susceptible to Seth. Talk about a turn of events, even for ENNEAD that was a really great subversion of expectations, especially since the foreshadowing of Anubis and Seth's father-son relationship is prevalent throughout the manhwa. It was a great twist, honestly. It's a fantasy BL and with Mojito as the illustrator and author, I didn't expect any less. Hands down, awesome job.
But anyway, let's go to Anubis.
Did you see that coming? I think the fuck not. I'm still hoping for a different kind of turn-out between Seth and Anubis. Not hatred, not loveship, something else...
In the meantime, can't we just appreciate Anubis? He's so gorgeous it's criminal. Genshin gamers are going ape shit crazy over Ayato Kamisato's release, and I'm here just waiting on Daddy Anubis to make his entrance. Anytime soon now,,,

This. This comment right here. This definitely made my day. 👍✨ This isn't emphasized enough. Even if incest is a thing in ENNEAD, it still hits different if you're father-son at heart. Anubis grew up with Seth as his father figure and Seth, with all his heart, treated Anubis like his own son. If we view their relationship from a romantic standpoint, for me morally, it's just... wrong on so many levels. I also believe neither Anubis nor Seth is capable of entering a romantic relationship with each other- not willingly, at least. It's an unpopular opinion, but it's still opinion nonetheless. I'm probably offending a lot of AnuSeth shippers with just this comment but it is what it is haha.

I mean.... Osiris and Seth are brothers. Horus and Seth are an uncle and a nephew. Anubis and Seth are a father and a son(and technically an uncle and a nephew). It's ALL incest.... including Egyptian mythology itself. (and Greek mythology, too.) And seriously, Seth has sacrificed EVRYTHING for Anubis, but he forgot everything about Seth. And then, Anubis mistook Seth as his ex-boyfriend and KISSED him. It's obvious that Anubis will fall for Seth. (And Seth would hate it as he hates to be loved by any other men in Ennead) I ship this relationship as Mojito does 🥰 This is so DELICIOUS!!! Although, I respect your opinion, too!

Huh? They're all literally related. Horus/Seth is blood-related nephew/uncle. Even Anubis/Seth is nephew/uncle. I don't even ship Anubis/Seth, but just let people ship whatever they want to ship. Trying to apply black and white morality to ENNEAD of all things is a moot point. Everything in this story has complex dynamics beyond something as basic as "b-b-b-b-but Seth raised Anubis!". Literally all of Seth's relationships aren't that simple. Currently in this story, Seth's own brother, nephew, and even his other nephew/pseudo-son wants to bang him. There isn't a single uwu wholesome pure dynamic here.

POV: Anubis is tired. Osiris' eyes have grown more and more distant lately, consumed by thoughts that Anubis, despite his role as his son, his confidant, and his closest friend, is not privy to. Though Anubis has lived a rich, powerful life with his father in Duat, somehow... something is missing. It's like Osiris is... a little bit different from the man he remembers. Their bond feels hollow. And, despite the soft familiarity of his realm, Anubis has found little comfort in the company of the dead. And so, he has taken it upon himself to explore the world of the living. Perhaps... he will find the thing that feels so deeply _absent._ He wanders the streets of Egypt as a jackal, not wishing to attract attention from the humans. And, indeed, none attempt to interfere with his wandering. If anything, they seem repelled by his presence, as if he bore a magic ward. Though, the smell of death probably works well enough. It is then that he is stopped in his tracks, abruptly pierced with a memory. That smell... He lifts his nose-- soaking in the aroma, and feels that it is awakening something in him. Akawi. It doesn’t make any sense- why would he remember the smell of a human meal? But, as if drawn by a string, he follows the scent. It’s coming from a small building, alive with chatter and glowing with lantern light. And then... he sees you. You sit on the ground outside the building, cradling a bowl in your lap and eating in silence. His eyes fix on the meal, and he immediately identifies it as the source of that smell. He needs it. Anubis stalks out of the shadows, prepared to chase you off if that means getting a taste- it’s maddening how _intimately familiar_ it smells, and if it takes bloodshed to figure out why, then so be it. And then you lock eyes with him. He growls a warning, expecting you to jump to your feet and shriek. But, no. Instead… You _smile._ He growls a little louder, and you just chuckle. “Are you hungry?” You ask. There isn’t a shred of fear in your voice, eyes narrow and steady. You pick out a piece of meat with your fingers, and his gaze latches onto it instantly. “I’ll give you some if you obey.” He pauses. How absurd- a human expecting _obedience_ from _him._ From a _God--_ “Sit.” He sits. You toss the meat at him and he catches it from the air with his teeth. Memories flood him- memories of the city, of the daytime, of a man with firey hair holding out a bowl of Akawi to him with a shining smile. _What in the world?_ You smile, eyes going bright in amusement. He stares at you, and something inside of him stirs. “Come here,” you order, and, as if enchanted, he follows your words. You run your hands over his head, cooing gently. You then hold out the bowl to him and he takes another small bite, savoring it for a long, long moment. And then you pause. He looks up at you to see that your eyes have taken on a new expression. Something… inquisitive. You place the bowl down, leaning in closer, and for a moment, Anubis worries that he has done something to betray his divinity. “Bow your head,” you order, and, for reasons even he does not understand, he complies. You hold his face in your hands, touch warm, and firm, and _powerful,_ and then you lean in to whisper in his ear. “Come back tomorrow and I’ll feed you again. You should really stop digging around in graves… the smell of corpses doesn’t suit a pretty dog.” He freezes. You stand, leaving the bowl on the ground, and disappear back inside the building. He lifts his head once you’ve left. And then, with a racing mind and a pounding heart, he dissolves into the shadows. Who are you? The first thing Anubis does when he returns home is run a bath. He empties bottles of perfume into the water indiscriminately, before hurrying to sink himself under the surface. _The smell of corpses doesn’t suit a pretty dog._ Who _are_ you? It doesn’t make sense. Never in his life- never that he could remember- has he actually feared _lacking_ another’s approval. And he had been raised by Gods. To think that a human would… would make him want to change his scent, to think he would want so badly to _please_ you… How absurd. And yet, the thought of your eyes, your lips, your hair… His mind is racing. And it feels dangerous. He returns the next night. This time, it is in his human form, body and face concealed by a dark cloak. You’re sitting outside the restaurant again. And, like before, you are alone. You have another bowl of Akawi at your side, and yet, you’ve barely touched it. Instead, your attention is fixed on the street, as if waiting for a friend. He smiles. Of course you are fascinated by him, as he is by you. It was fate that you had encountered one another, and tonight could only confirm this. He wants to show you his home. You aren't suited for the mortal realm. No… there's something special in your eyes, your smile, your touch… You have a soul fit for divinity. He's sure of it. Eventually, people stop filtering out of the restaurant, and the lanterns inside are extinguished. And yet, you stay, waiting loyally for your jackal. It is only after the last person leaves, and he can be sure that you are truly and completely alone, that he approaches you. Your eyes go wide as he stands over you, and your hand goes to your hip. You must be concealing a weapon. How sweet. “Are you waiting for someone?” He asks, voice coming out as a deep purr. You shake your head, though it is an obvious lie. Anubis wonders if you can smell the perfumed oils that lace his hair and bathe his skin. He hopes the scent overpowers you- that it will still linger in the back of your throat in his absence. He hopes it’s more befitting than the smell of death. You rise to your feet, expression still apprehensive. You seem oblivious to the fate that ties you to him. But, when you look at his eyes, your head turns the slightest bit, as if catching a thread of recognition. You look like you’re calculating a possibility. Or maybe a risk. “Who are you?” You ask. He smiles at the melody of your voice, reveling in the way it bounces over every syllable. He wants to hear it say his name- scream his name. He wants to own it. But, he does not answer you, too swept up in the sound of your words to register their meaning. Your patience appears to fade, and, precious like a present, you give him one more sentence. "Have a good night.” With that, you turn away from him and begin to walk down the street. Panic floods his body. "Wait," he commands, and, perhaps it is because of his divine influence, or perhaps just luck, but you obey. You turn back to him, eyes stern. There is no worship in your gaze, but a cold firmness, as if you're the one in control. As if you aren't a mortal in the face of death himself. Your eyebrow raises in a slight arc, a silent question that betrays your thoughts more than words ever could. _'Why should I?'_ "Do you recognize me?" he asks, in more of a plead than anything. He is not a man that has much experience with strong emotions. His time being raised with Osiris... his childhood in Duat... his entire life, he has never felt this. A deep, potent fascination has taken root, and he is afraid that if he does not keep your presence tonight, he might lose you forever. You look at him for another moment, eyes dragging from his feet to his face. "No." You turn, and just like that, begin to disappear down the street. His head tips forward. Well. That simply won't do. If words cannot keep you, then he will have to act. He can hear the skeletons under the ancient city calling out to him, offering themselves to him, pleading for a chance to serve their God. Who is he to deny them? And so, he reaches out his staff. The earth sinks out from under you. When you awaken, it is in a bed you do not recognize. The sheets are black, and the walls appear carved from obsidian. You stumble to your feet, but before you can find your way to the door, you are stopped. A black jackal stares back at you. ... It _couldn't_ be. But, if the silver of his eyes didn't betray him, the smell of death does. It has been warped-- mixed with a concoction of saffron and rose oil, as if in an effort to mask the rot. Your eyes narrow. The last thing you remember before collapsing is encountering that... that _man_ in the street. He had smelled the same. How ludicrous. "Is this because I didn't give you any food yesterday?" You ask, tone cold and despondent. You would have probably gotten some finer meat if you had known it was an offering for a God. And, as if to confirm your suspicions, the jackal rises, and in a cloud of shadow, transforms into the man. There are hands on your waist and lips on your neck, and before you know what is happening, you are back on the bed. He stares down at you, a drunken mania in his eyes. Numb with shock, you simply touch his hair, confirming that yes, this being is tangible, and yes, it appears you are in reality. He leans into your palm, a soft sound coming from the back of his throat. Well. There are... worse ways to end up in the afterlife.

@@findmeinamethyst I think Anubis will be similar to Osiris - if I'm going off the pictures we've seen of him - but still like the old him, y'know? I like the idea that Anubis becomes like a mixture of both Seth and Osiris, since one raised him and the other technically created him. I think he'll be aloof and stoic while somehow still being like the little kid he used to be. If he doesn't show any signs of his old self, then I think he'll be more jaded. I have no guesses as to what Anubis' role in the plot will be, but whatever it is, I hope it adds A LOT of drama and make me cry/angry bc I care too much about these men.

Imagine how conflicted he must be following his biological father or trying to forgive his father at heart for his wrongdoings. I could never handle the stress. Does he have to choose a side or can he make the best of both worlds? If not, who will he resemble more of, Daddy Seth or Papa Osiris? Who knows? Whatever traits he chooses to internalize from either father will greatly impact not just his personality but resolve any existing internal conflicts he has about himself. I want to see *peace* by the end of this manhwa goddamn it and idc if I have to go to war and bawl my eyes out before we get there just so long as it's possible then the heartache is worth it!!! >:DD
