Yeah but that whole irrational revenge plot still doesn't hold up too well since it's escalation for escalation's sake after the first game. The first game did a good job on setting up a beginning, middle and end. If the series never went on to become one, then the 1st game would have been satisfying enough to be the legitamite end to God of War.

I really enjoyed this game, but must admit that Ares left a bad taste in my mouth. I played the game on Spartan. When I got to the initial form of Ares it took me 45 minutes of dying before I beat him. The following scene took me 20 minutes of dying before beating it. The final form of Ares was basically an insult. You can't block anything, and take mass damage when you try. Not only that but his health bar increases in the process. He has a bunch of special attacks while you have a weak sword. Basically even if you get some decent hits in, he only has to counter with half of what you did and he has regained the health he had. After a half an hour I had enough and had to resort to easy mode having no other option (didn't want to start the fight all over again to just drop it to normal, since the game doesn't give you the option unless reloading). On easy I marched in like a meat head, didn't try to block anything, or evade, and won easily. To have played the whole game on spartan and have to resort to easy for Ares was degrading, and not a good way to end a great game. So yes, he is a cheating bastard in the final battle. I don't know how people do it on God mode.
