Her betrayal by Odin, abandonment by her people and forced isolation in one realm made her all the more hyper paranoid, domineering and overprotective when it came to the one good, pure thing she still had in her life that gave her joy, peace and comfort - her child. Honestly I love Freya's character and how caring she is as a mother and one in her various imposing positions. Leader of the Vanir, Queen of the Valkyries, Wife of Odin and Mother of Baldur.... Why she failed as Baldur's mother is not that she _didn't_ love him or _abused_ him, what she did to Baldur was much worse. She ruined his life in the only way worse than whatever Thor did to Modi, by being overprotective of her child and controlling him (via her magic) with selfish intentions being part of her reasons for it. Taking away his choice in a major life-altering decision and cursing him with the inability to feel anything physically. A parent that would have zero faith in their child's own ability is destined to make them incapable of anything on their own. Baldur's resentment and hatred of her is understood when nothing so much as makes him move. Can you imagine simply moving around unable to feel your foot hitting the ground, eating with tasting the meal in your mouth, being entirely numb to everything. That sounds like a nightmare. One Freya would not remove, even though Baldur _begged her_ to remove it. All because of a random _Rune_ telling Freya her son will die a needless death. When she made Baldur incapable of feeling, she made him this empty, morbidly indifferent monster of a god, and thus resulting in his death. It's as a wise old Chinese Tortoise once said.... "One often meets their destiny on the road they take to avoid it."

People say Freya is over-protecting her son. I know this might not happen, but I hope we get Atreus and Freya moments in the next game. Just those little moments where she acts like a mother, and maybe teaches him extra things. I know we see her attacking Kratos in the trailer, though I still hope she comes around.

Kinda ironic that Kratos reiterates the same thing his Father Zeus says in GoW 2 when stating that "the cycle ends here." He does say a little more about being better but still.

"He saved your life!" "He robbed me of EVERYTHING!" It's such a short exchange, but will forever make me cry. She was ready to die at the hands of a son who spent a god's lifetime hating her, just because he said that's what he wanted. She was so in love with motherhood that she couldn't see a life past it, even though it tormented her son. Freya was so blind to the pain she put him through and the fact that his death hurt her so much just never stops feeling like a gut punch. I don't think there exists a possible way where that line delivery could be better.

Because even before GoW we're familiar with the Greek mythology. We all knew the Greek gods are a bunch of a*sholes
@TheStraightestWhitest6 жыл бұрын
@@INCOGNITO-iq4qy But they ruined this by making the Norse gods a carbon copy of the Greek ones. Why couldn't they make an enticing villain instead? In its place we got a head who literally cannot stop talking about how unnecessarily cruel the gods are (even the ones that aren't in Mythology like Baldr, Odin, Thor, and Magni & Modi especially). I mean Odin tricks his wife to fuck with her, then uses her own magic against her and rips off her wings, poisons her children against her, and banishes her because... why!? Why the fuck would they make that story canon without a very good fucking explanation? No one likes an extremely bland villain like that. An evil villain needs an explanation for being evil. It's why Kratos' character works. We all know why he did what he did back in the older games, if we didn't we'd view him as a boring psychopath.

Maybe now Freya will realize what it is she did to her son. Just as she took everything from her son, she feels like Kratos took everything from her when he killed Baldur. It was a cycle that she started... and it probably won't end until she realizes that.

Snore Topez Are you implying that by "All Gods" you mean not only the ones of polytheism but also the intent to target the one from monotheism? Monotheism at least can explain how mankind can speak in different languages, why there's a standard of universal good and evil, if there's life in humanity then there must be something/someone responsible in creating them, etc.

I hate that the aftermath of the final boss fight of GofW4 is essentially setting things up to transform Freya into a tragic villain-type in the next game in the series as I was really really hoping to see Freya become a recurring ally to Kratos & Atreus thru out this new exciting GofW cycle, maybe even see her ultimately become a new love interest to Kratos & a new mother to Atreus. I hate seeing her suddenly at odds with Kratos big-time after she helped out both him & Atreus alot in their journey and after she & Atreus were beginning to develop a kind of mother & son-like bond with one another. I get that despite Baldur trying to kill her & him being bat-shit crazy that at the end of the day he was still her son & all and it grieved her to see him dead but she has to know that Kratos only killed Baldur in order to save her & not outta ruthless malice & bloodlust. I just hope that in GofW5 that she does not go into full-blown vengeful villain mode and that somehow she will reconcile with Kratos as I'd really like to see her relationship with both Kratos & Atreus further developed.

i don't think so. mimir told Kratos and Atreus that only Freya knows the weakness of the walls of Asgard.. during ragnarok we all know that Kratos and Atreus will participate so it's very likely that Freya will be on their side at the end... besides mimir also mentioned to give Freya time as she is still at a loss and grieving for her son's death.... we all say bad things that we don't mean when we're angry.. something like that.

@Simon Farre Sorry to say it, but they badly raped those stories. Magni and Modi making mom jokes to a kid? Getting killed by a bald old man who doesn't know how to swing his axe in proper fashion? Them dying and being cruel at all instead of surviving Ragnarok, and dedicating their lives to selflessly help a handful of humans rebuild? Or how about Odin being a rapist asshole who rips off his wife's wings for no reason, instead of being a wise stern leader attempting to keep all the worlds intact? Or Thor being nothing beyond a strong nationalist instead of a bloodthirsty psychopath? How about the fact that there's an explanation for almost everything in Norse mythology, instead of simply saying ''this is how it is. deal with it.'' Like this game does? I liked the game too, but the way they thoroughly raped the mythos really bothered me. They just had to make the ''bad guys'' so overly incomprehensible and evil again. Why not give us a compelling story with an understandable villain instead? People are being dumbed down too much to get that I guess...
