His family dieing actually had an impact on history. It affected him and put him on that journey. Saving them causes a paradox. The titans however, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) they just died(vanished) at the end of their fight with the gods. Half gods are usually able to rival full gods if they have a powerful parent. Kratos says he was born a god, and so was Atreus. Kratos is a son of Zeus, Ares is a son of Zeus, making Kratos and Ares half brothers. Magni and Modi even call Baldur uncle even though they are demigods.
