Poseidon if you think about it really was pretty close in power (using power) to zeus. His water abilites and lightning were enough to take on the Titans by himself and he was 1v2ing Gaia and Kratos pretty well on his own. It wasnt until Gaia and Kratos's combo attack that Poseidon went down.

@Dee Cee In terms of capability. I dont think he'd actually win against zeus. But in terms of output and ability he was extremely powerful when he has access to water which because of his versatility in using lightning magic and water made him able to fight all the titans and was doing pretty damn good for fighting Kratos and Gaia at once. But yea Zeus is king. Hes just to damn durable with to many powers and abilities. Like short range lightning teleportation. But it would be an amazing fight.

Poseidon was kinda done dirty. He was made to look weak just for an immpressive intro. But its worth noting that while he was in water he was multi-fighting titans and was able to 1v2 Kratos and Gaia for a good while. He should have been far more durable even outside the water but it is what it is. Gaia hit him with the force of a mountain and Kratos was able to piggy back off the hit and do the rest.

He was weakend because of his fight with Kratos and Gaia, that's why he was so weak outside of his avatar, plus Kratos could have beat him solo if he really had to, since he beat Zeus who is significantly stronger than both of his brothers combined.

@@edwardarroyo884 I'm sure kratos eventually would have beaten poseidon, but it would have been far more difficult without the assistance of a Titan giving him the ability to hit Poseidon the same way. Its not that poseidon is stronger but his powers are radically different and pose more of a challenge not being stronger than Kratos but more versatile. Sometimes its not about the stronger fighter. And remember Zeus killed Kratos 2x before he beat zeus

Kratos already had the powers of poseidon using his typhoons plus poseidon can 0nly do so much controlling 75% of earths ocean. If he would've used his full power the earth would've been vaporized by power clashing.

Oceanus actually killed Hermes in a whirlpool attack in GoW 3's original story. Considering that and what Perses did to Helios it seems Hermes being above Gaia is a big stretch. Oceanus and Perses also seemed to fight off the Hippocampi. There are many holes in that "norse warriors > greek rulers" narrative. Kratos was indeed rusty and holding back vs Baldr. The sheer fact that he didnt even summon the Blades to him shows Kratos was holding back. That statement in the novel can be interpreted in the way that the Stranger is Kratos strongest mortal enemy since he sees him as a man and wondered why his weak totem isnt working on him. Kratos also thaught that in his old rageful phase he wouldve just blitzed and insta-killed him. If you want to interpret it as some confirmation/prove that Baldr, aesir god of light is more powerful than all major greek dieties then its quite clearly an outlier in an secondary canon novel that isnt supported in the first canon game. Why not supported? Cause Kratos held back + was rusty and still won the first fight. Came out on top in the second fight despite Atreus. Dominated and low-diffed the final fight against an more powerful and motivated Baldr. Did he go on an epic quest to find some all-powerful weapon like Pandoras Box or need some reality ruling super weapon like the Blade of Olympus? Did he empower himself with devine olympian/titanic powers and weapons/relics? No, he just snapped his neck. Yeah Kratos is physically more powerful now than in the past. And thats it. I get the Aesir are the new enemies and have to be challenging and impressive so im willing to put up with that. But thats no reason to go ignorant on the lore of the olympians. Greek rulers, norse warriors? Zeus himself says that olympians were born in victory, in an centuries long war over dominance with the Titans. All Olympians incl. Ares, Artemis etc. took part in it. Then came the Gigantomachy with another victory for the gods. Typhon soloed by Zeus. Thats the greek rulers. What do the Aesir have to show for all the hype around their warrior image? Stalemate against Vanir and then annihilation in Ragnarök. To put it this way, they stalemated in an centuries long war with another gods and then lost the war of vengeance against them. While the Olympians not only won their war against the Titans but also later against their avengers in the Gigantomachy and Typhon. Ffs, the best warrior in pretty much every GoW verse, Kratos comes from the greek pantheon. So yeah lets look what SM does with Odin, Thor, Njörd, Freya etc.. and then judge. But so far its ridiculous to talk about the Aesir being above Olympian just based on Baldr, Magni and Modi. Will some egyptian tutorial boss be more powerful than Odin and Thor then in a few years?

The reason kratos could kill her at that moment was because he had hope activated which he was more powerful than her with it. Hephestus stated that the flame of olympus is above the gods themselves and it can still kill ascended Athena and it was directly stated that the evils and hope are far more powerful than the flame.

Hey man cool video! I know I'm really late, but I'd say Poseidon > Hades, just because Poseidon fights multiple Titans and holds his own to a reasonable extent in a 2v1 against Kratos and Gaia, while Kratos 1v1s Hades after falling into the River Styx. I also personally think Zeus would be above Baldur, just from the fact that he goes up against peak Kratos and does him dirty quite a bit, while Baldur (at least at the beginning of the game) goes up against a Kratos that hasn't fought for his life in over like a thousand years, and imo in GOW4 Kratos doesn't have that "edge" that blood thirst and full on brutality he has in the past games which imo kinda makes a difference

I do think that the Olympians are stronger than the Aesir personally. While the Aesir are very powerful the are also mortal beings (mythology confirms this) who can be killed by pretty much anything if it is strong enough. The Olympians on the other hand are divine beings who can’t be killed by anything in the myth and in the games can only be killed by someone with the power of hope(that person being Kratos)

The Olympians are immortal in the sense that they can’t die from age or natural causes, whereas the Aesir aren’t immortal and do have a limited lifespan. But the Olympians probably can be killed by anything strong enough.

I think the invulnerability only played a small part cause Baldur did seriously mess up Kratos in their first fight. I still do think he was the strongest and most difficult opponent he fought

Baldur would have died multiple times in that fight. Kratos only fought because he had to without any of the powers or weapons or abilities in past games Let alone titan allies it took to help take down beings like Poseidon, weapons like the blade of olympus to kill cronos, and Zeus killed kratos twice and didnt die to the blade of olympus multiple times and it took kratos dying and being revived by "hope" and being given unlimited power and strength and fire by "hope" to kill zeus Baldur was only in the fight and messed up kratos a bit because he wasnt dying or tiring because he cant die or tire or be injured or feel pain. Thats not a normal opponent. But Kratos overpowered and outmatched him every time, mostly holding back and protecting Atreus

something to know obviously baldur is strong but, if he is vulnerable AFTER being attacked by the mistletoe he will be weaker, the luck of the nordic god depends if he is immortal the probability of being stronger It is somewhat tall but if it is vulnerable it can be easier to defeat but, also with its element states which would give the god an advantage but anyway kratos surpasses it in strength and Baldur beats kratos in speed

At least Helios had to get knocked outta the sky and injured before kratos ripped off his head. And I’m not gonna make any statements about how much stronger or weaker kratos is in the new games but it’s heavily implied he is holding back because he is a different person(I’m even willing to say it’s a HUGE part of the growth of his character) even in the comics which are canon material he killed trolls and got EXTREMELY mad and depressed at himself for losing control and killing. There is a lot of proof he is holding back and in the old games he is not at all. So even if he is stronger (which he definitely has better showings in the older titles, while the new game is mostly statements confirming his strength) it’s kinda disingenuous to say he is not suppressed and holding back and I’m struggling to see how baulder did any better in his fight against a suppressed kratos then the gods on Olympus when he had the power of hope, a titan army, and the blade of Olympus capable of one shotting a war. HE IS DEFINITELY holding back so it kinda makes me question how baulder would do against a blood lusted kratos and not a daddy mode kratos. Plus I see you saying people are arguing off of disbelief but you can also say “death of the author” to Corey barlogs statements because kratos has better feats is earlier games. Magni and Modi aren’t impressive enough IMO, Even together with combinations of attacks they just don’t pressure Kratos the same way as Baldur who could handle a 2v1 with a stronger Atreus, with that being said I want to do a GOW demigod ranking as well. @@ThunderGodTG So, I agree that Baldur is pretty high power wise, but I do think that Kratos was rusty when he first fought him, he may be literally stronger than his young self at this point but he still hadn't had a fought against a God in a long time, so he'd still be pretty rusty. It's also worth noting we don't know if Cory meant Old Kratos beats Young Kratos as long as he is in Rage mode, or at base power, so it's hard to know for sure how much stronger Kratos is, but I do believe he's stronger. Also, as others point out he is holding back the whole time, Baldur clearly isn't strong enough to fight Kratos when he is in Rage mode, no character in the game can hurt him when he is in Rage mode, Baldur even loses his shit in their final fight when he realizes he can't kill Kratos. In the comic that came with the game we see that their are levels to his Rage as well, his Rage he uses in game is controlled anger, whereas in the comic he completely loses his shit and just murders everything around him, so I'd say that version of Rage is probably Kratos at his strongest but it would put everyone in danger, Atreus included, since he loses his control of it. The book is likely like the original novels they are cannon as long as they don't contradict the game, so Baldur being stronger wouldn't make sense considering Kratos beats him in every fight, and yeah Atreus helps at the end, but let's be real he didn't do much compared to Kratos, other than summoning Snek, it's like with Gaia and Kratos fighting Poseidon, Gaia helped very little, Kratos did a majority of the work. Their are even times in the book where Kratos has trouble with normal enemies, which makes no sense power wise, because he is far above anything that isn't the highest tier Gods that exist, so again as long as the books don't contradict their good. I do think Thor is going to be stronger than any of the Greek characters though, since that's usually how games work, the enemies will keep getting stronger each game, but great video, I'm glad you used the lore for information, since a lot of people don't know about it.

@@ThunderGodTG Im not big on discord. I wholeheartedly disagree on the claim that Norse pantheon beats the Olympus pantheon. Kratos had a lot of circumstances in the events of GOW1-3 that allowed him to kill the gods (Pandoras box, Blade of olympus, Hope, Titan allies, God weapons) In fact the only gods/titans kratos beat without a Titan helping or Titan powers/God powers power up or a god weapon are Hermes, Hercules, and Heaphastus. Thanatos is an iffy because he was technically the God Of War at the time and had the powers granted to him. Not sure how much Deimos counts as an ally there since hes just a regular demi-god. Its not the same at all as when kratos fights the norse pantheon centures later without any of those things and just his raw and brute strength. He beats the norse Gods handedly while holding back for Atreus and not using his full rage. Every fight he wins he may get tired and a little bruised because its been ages since he had to fight gods. Thats all I'm saying. I have no doubt hes *stronger* than before but we definitely havent seen him use his full power in the 2018 GOW. Not compared with what we SAW him do in GOW 1-3 and the other games like slaying a primordial Death and stuff.

THOR couldnt even do that when the world serpent first showed up when it was SMALLER and weaker. Even when ragnarok happens he doesnt beat Jormungandr. The whole "prophecy" is intentionally vague about what actually happens. If you pay attention everyone says "it is *Said* when they fight" they are just going off what is said not facts. Baldur with that curse is extremely broken, and yet Kratos still knocks him out the first fight. And outmatches him in every fight

So I did read your comment and it really does sound like you’re arguing from a point of disbelief. I’ve seen you make a couple points based on certain assumptions like Kratos not trying vs Other Gods or Him not using his full rage which are impossible to quantify. We have certain statements like Kratos and the 3 day Journey with his fights with Baldur actually fatiguing him towards the end but that’s it. As far as the Jorumangander stuff you can literally just say Baldur > Thor or possible Baldur caught the world serpent off guard. My main issue with your stance is that is more so based on assumptions about Kratos power used against these opponents vs actual statements and feats which I give, I offered a call to discuss it but, other than that agree to disagree can’t do much more for you.

The aesir pantheon honestly wouldnt stand a chance against the greek pantheon. The aesir are powerful in their own right, but besides thor and Odin, they lacked massively on their magical abilites and relied on nothing but brute strength. Baldur, Thor, Odin, and heimdall were the primary strength of the Aesir, Hermes might not win against Heimdall, but its basically even and hes faster so he might be able to break past his defence, but I cant see Odin defeating Posideon let alone Zeus. Thor would probably defeat hades, but overall even if their are a few aesir that can match the greek pantheon they are just too few in numbers. Four fightings of greek quality against Ares, athena, hermes, zeus, posideon, hades, hellios and more. The aesir pantheon would need at least two more gods of decent power to be close to matching the greek pantheon. Magni and modi would just be fodder.

I think Zeus was still the strongest fighter but baldur was still the strongest in terms of giving Kratos a hard fight. Zeus got his ass whooped in gow 2 and then most likely just killed all the gods near Olympus he didn’t like. Morpheus was probably locked up after chains of Olympus, Zeus probably killed him and absorbed his power, eos wasn’t seen again, Demeter is nowhere to be seen, Apollo never shows up, and Artemis doesn’t seem to care to defend the world. I think Zeus definitely just absorbed the power of a bunch of gods and then was only beat because Kratos had the sword that one shotted an army of titans, armor that could deflect even that blade, the strongest pair of twin blades ever with the souls of the Spartan army in them, claws that could rip people’s souls out of their bodies, gauntlets capable of destroying the chain of balance, a whip infused with electrical power, a bow that burned hotter than the blades of exile, the head of the god of the sun, and boots to make Kratos as fast as Hermes.
