I met Amos in Berlin ITB some years ago we had a deep discussion about our marketing strategy and I was impressed, among all the stands at the ITB Uganda was the worst compared to Rwanda Burundi and other poor nations respectively, those UTB guys all they could do would go and meet investors away from the uganda stand meaning they was only marketing their own lodges not uganda as country it was so frustrating. The uganda companies with their representatives didn’t know how to market their products, they couldn’t not speak fluently in a nutshell Market vendors in Owino are good at marketing their products than these tourism guys who come to Germany every year all they do is print flyers and wear bikoyi and hire a few Ugandans to come and dance mazina maganda just kusasamaza and call it a day. What wekesa did on his stall he hired bazungu who speak germany and other languages to do the marketing of uganda lodges and great safaris the others didn’t want to pay us to who speak germany because they thought they were wasting money. Government should make international language compulsory in schools we are to benefit in the industry.

One of the greatest positive, provoking, well thought after commentary on Uganda! Thank you Sir Amos. A lot of Ugandans are fleeing the country because it has failed to work for them and then you hear about all this Greatness that is Uganda and you cannot help it but feel sad and blue wondering what it could all have been had we the right selfless patriotic leaders. Its very painful, but not lost. We can still make a comeback. Very hard but not impossible. Thanks Sir Amos once again. Many blessings.

Thank you for sharing this insightful piece of information. At one point, I momentarily forgot that I was watching Hard Questions. However, it soon became evident that I wasn't alone in this realization, as Solomon was also beaming with smiles. His serious demeanor, typically reserved for Hard Questions, had disappeared. This experience felt like a masterclass in history and economics combined, making it a truly remarkable and enlightening piece.

Amos sets the scene with a birds eye view of the immense tourism opportunities in Uganda. For a way forward, please list, profile and pimp up the individual products he has highlighted. For instance, 1. Our colonial historical sites, 2. Cultural sites 3. Lake Victoria 4. Ssese Islands 5. Foods of Uganda 6. Mountains 7. River Nile 8. Gorillas 9. Sports personae 10. Indian expulsion memoirs 11. Birds of Uganda .etc etc .....the list is bottomless

If we can only have many Amos' that love Uganda this way. Amos has Uganda at heart, on his lips and in his eyes. This is the meaning of being patriotic. This is more educative than politics we engage in on a daily basis. I wish this message extends beyond the walls of AIIJ and NBS, be translated for all citizens. We all need to hear this and fully embrace the wonders of the Pearl of Africa. Thank Amos Wekesa for sharing your heart.

Amos being my tourism mentor thanks a lot for being brave and become a voice to everyone in the tourism industry, talk of the business we gain from India totally nothing, transportation in Uganda, Ugandan security, I can say Uganda is only based on individual marketing of the the private tour operators. It’s no longer about poor governance it’s the worst opposition fueling the worst government for ever since the idi Amin regime. Talk of Afcon, with the threat of thieves from Kamapala city. Uganda will negatively gain shame from Afcon.

Uganda embassy in Berlin is also just frustrating the stuff there is just not informed enough on what they are supposed to do interms of marketing as long as they have a few crafts , uganda coffee , uganda waragi they are done , the visa system is frustrating look at the website u might think it’s fake In it’s nature u might fear to put in your credit card stuff , wen it comes to getting a response after applying online is also frustrating, come to arrivals at the airport having spent to many hours on a freight the stuff at the airport don’t understand their job , poor customer care, u find some one busy chatting on their phones without eye contact and then wen it comes to the luggage they dump suit cases the way they want, airport toilets that’s a story for another day
