I thought brother James taught that believing what Jesus did on the cross was the ONLY thing required for salvation, but here in this message he also adds that a person must call upon the Lord to be saved.

You do have to call upon the Lord! If you were to only believe, it would be like believing a medicine could cure you of a sickness you have.. but never personally taking it. So while you may believe the medication may save you- it won’t actually cure you until you personally receive the medicine! Hopefully that makes sense. So I’m order to be saved one must believe and personally receive Jesus as their personal savior. Romans 10:9- That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

@@FishingWithKate . . Believing IS receiving. Please notice the conditional "word" in Rom. 10:9. "If" thou shalt confess with thy mouth (the Lord Jesus) then the one confessing "also" must have believed in their heart or else they wouldn't be capable of calling on the Lord. Confession alone is NOT enough to be saved, for salvation takes place in the heart and only God can see the heart. Please notice the first part of verse 10. For with the "heart" man believeth unto righteousness. Believing unto righteousness is salvation. Salvation can refer to justification or it can refer to sanctification or it can refer to glorification. In the context of the verse, when one believes "unto righteousness" it means that they have been justified of their sins. This simply means the person has received God's righteousness because they believed upon Jesus. Now look at the last part of verse 10 which says "and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." The word salvation hete points to (sanctification). This is confirmed in the first part of verse 14. How then shall they CALL on him in whom they have not believed? According to Scripture, believing precedes calling. Therefore the very moment one believes the Gospel message "in or with their heart" they are saved and secure. This is justification. The believer is now in a position to call upon the Lord if they so please to, but then again they may not. We must know that only a justified believer is capable of calling upon the Lord Jesus. See 1 Cor. 12: 3. And a justified believer is one, who, at some point in the past has BELIEVED on the Lord Jesus Christ, Acts 16:31. Blessings!

The devils believe in Jesus Christ and they tremble! 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13 KJV

@@harvestworkers626 You’re wrong. You absolutely must call upon the name of the Lord for salvation. Asking God to give you His free gift of eternal life does not mean that you earned the gift for simply asking for it. That is not a “work” because salvation is not by works of righteousness which we have done. Look to the Law to see what works of righteousness are and quit confusing faith with works. Does the gift stop being free when you ask for it? It takes no effort on your part to ask for the gift. Calling upon the name of the Lord is asking Him to save you. There is a reason why we Baptist’s always lead the sinner into prayer that they may call at the end of a gospel presentation. This isn’t a “misinformed tradition”. There’s a reason for everything and we Baptist’s do this deliberately. Calling upon the name of the Lord has been the universal means of salvation throughout the old and New Testaments and hasn’t changed now either. Let’s see just how many times calling upon the name of the Lord is coupled with salvation. The amount of times may convince you to understand that this is a requirement for salvation. John 4:10 “Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” Genesis 4:26 “And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.” Psalm 116:13 “I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.” Romans 10:12 “For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.” 1 Corinthians 1:2 “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:” Acts 22:16 “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”

@@charlie4christ536 . . In case you haven't noticed this before or not, but no one ever asks for a gift. Gifts are freely given apart from the recipient asking for it or else it wouldn't be a gift. Gifts therefore are either received or rejected. Now then, in the matter of salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ has already provided this "free gift" of salvation to all mankind by shedding His sinless blood on the Cross for our sins, which means He "has" already forgiven us. Now then, the only thing left is for the person to either receive the gift or reject it. How is the gift received? Through FAITH alone. There is no other way. Did not Paul say that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures" 1 Cor. 15: 3? Yes he did! It's an established fact of truth (1 Cor. 15: 3-4) and the only thing necessary for a person to receive salvation and the forgiveness of their sins is simply to believe "in their heart" that Christ has already attained that for them. It is FINISHED! The recipient of Christ's free gift of salvation should simply be for them to say "Thank you, Jesus"!

Law or no law, it seems as if you put it in a bag and shake it all up and it still comes out the same (Eph 2:10; Titus 2:14) and many other passages. .

Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. He is good to everyone. However if you are not saved he is under no obligation to answer a lost persons prayer. Proverbs 28:9 KJV He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Many scriptures indicate he hears and listens to those who are saved and living in accordance with his word. 1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. I have not done an exclusive study on the topic, but thinking about some scriptures and doing a quick search of the scriptures it appears He does not hear the prayers of lost people. He will hear the prayer of a sinner that wants to turn to him; absolutely. My question is why would some one trust God enough to pray to them yet not trust them for salvation? Hope this helps CJ

What is not to trust? His truthfulness? Christ is not the one with trust issues.. John 10:14 I am the good Shepard, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. Just thank God above that you are even concerned with this matter... most are not his sheep.

@@JamesWKnoxSermons question to your response. As someone who struggled with salvation, within your reply are mentions of “the unjust, living in accordance to His will, does the will of the Father”. Knowing what a worthless sinner I am and how I fail more than I even know on a daily basis, those words are condemning. I agree with God in His righteousness and judgments for He is Holy and righteous. I want to strive to realize fully, that it’s not my deeds that please God on a daily basis, but it’s that Jesus has already given me His righteousness and I want to have Him so present in my life daily, that my actions will please Him. Oh how I hate my failures every day! But my question is, I think all those things can make it seem a burden to be perfect, and “do” works to become saved, at least that was the case for me. How best do we convey or share to others that when they read about being just, etc, it’s not about deeds or perfection, for we know there is none perfect but Jesus. I hope I’m conveying what I want to say the right way. Thank you for any reply and I just love Brother James and this ministry.🙏🏼

No you can’t, you have to trust Him with everything. There would be no need to trust Him for day to day life & not for salvation. It’s a package deal.
