Why are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob so special and also so persecuted? Why are so many Christians Joyless? What is the big picture of the Bible? These and other questions are explained by understanding the covenants. God has established covenants with humanity several successive and overlapping times, understanding the covenants helps us understand history, our relationship with Him, and how to receive blessing in our lives now.

An excerpt from the transcript:
The New Covenant Hebrews 8-9; Luke 22:20; I Corinthians 11:25
At the last supper, Jesus gave a cup to His disciples and said “this is a new covenant, in my blood.” Jesus fulfilled the requirements of Moses’ law for us, so we can relate to God through Him.
Made with Jesus’ church, all who would receive His gift by faith, whether Jew or Gentile. Ephesians 2:8-22
The new covenant is received by faith, it’s open to anybody who is willing to place their trust in Christ. Within His church, there is no distinction between Jew or Gentile.
• Jesus as our high priest and mediator. Hebrews 7:23-25; 9:15
Jesus represents us before God, and Jesus represents God to us.
• Jesus as our Passover lamb and sin offering. Hebrews 7:27; 9:11-14
Jesus rescued us from God’s wrath and paid for our sins.
• The Holy Spirit as our down payment and guarantee of an eternity with God. II Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Ephesians 1:13-14
We have a down payment on heaven, the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
• The bread and cup as sign of the covenant. Luke 22:19-20; I Corinthians 11:23-26
Like the other covenants, ours has a sign; the communion service. We commemorate Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf.
Lasts forever! Hebrews 5:9; 7:25
Like the other covenants, the new covenant is forever.
There is a similarity between our position as believers and the Jews’ position under the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants: we have the blessings, but we can’t appropriate and enjoy them unless we’re walking in obedience!
A person who is genuinely saved is out from under the wrath of God, has God’s power available to him for sanctification, has God’s guarantees and promises available to him. But a person walking in sin, even if he or she is saved, can’t appropriate or enjoy any of that!
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, etc. But a person walking in the flesh had none of that, instead has the previous list in Galatians 5, the deeds of the flesh and their consequences! We saw in First John that fellowship with Jesus is available to us, but if we are walking in sin, our fellowship is hampered, we’re in darkness instead of light.
If you’re genuinely saved, your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, and nothing can separate you from the love of God. But if you’re backslidden, walking in sin, you won’t have experiential assurance of salvation, you have every reason to wonder if you’re really saved, you need to get right with Him!
Walk with Jesus, obey Jesus, maintain a close fellowship with Jesus, enjoy to the fullest the blessings that are yours as a Christian!
