I love old sermons because they aren't worried about offending people with often harsh biblical truths.

Thank God that He raised up C H Spurgeon to preach the blessed gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the best sermon I’ve heard concerning salvation. The balance that Charles projects is a sure sign That he walked with God. Who needs a miracle? Who needs tongues?. What is needs is preaching like his. This man was full of the Spirit.

How precious is God's love that he chose me! I will forever praise him for being so merciful. God bless everyone. I look to the day I meet Spurgeon face to face. What a man of God.

Great message by Spurgeon. A tough subject for most Christians. The thought of God's will being paramount over man's will is distasteful to many, but if God isn't God, He wouldn't be sovereign. From our perspective, the sovereign will of God bothers us because we feel we're free agents that can choose to do what we want. Unfortunately, our choice is decided by our desires, which is made by the will. The will only moves us to choose what we desire. Jesus Himself tells us that whosoever commits sin is a servant (or slave) to it and only He can set us free (John 8:34-36). Man's will is dictated by our sin nature (Romans 3:10-18) and nothing we do in the flesh pleases God (Romans 8:6-8). It is only God-given faith that pleases the Lord. We don't summon enough faith in our own sinful nature to believe in Christ because we hate Him (John 15:18-23). Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2) gives us our faith. It is through this faith by His grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9) or we would have reason to boast. We could rightly say we heard the Word of God, but we summoned enough faith in our nature more than another sinner because we were wiser, smarter, more humble, etc. No matter how you cut it, if we believe our own will determines salvation, we become partners with God in salvation (which means He needs us to save us) and it means we were somehow more inclined to repent and trust Christ because we're better than the person who didn't.

Look at all that God does for His people!! The Lord is my shepherd. He makes me lie down in green pastures , He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for His names sake. Yeah though I walk thur the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me. They rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou prepareth a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Thou annoith my head with oil. My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. AMEN!!!!

Romans 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Revelation 22:17 ... whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

The question is: how fallen is man? Utterly!! Man's will and inclination is fallen. Only when the Spirit of the Lord touches the heart with conviction can it turn to Christ.

Oh if only to have such speakers and preachers in our pulpits today. Our churches are dead, the people are dead, the Word is perverted and twisted to fit man's evil desires and appease the sinful nature. God's will be done at this end times, call in your sheep and bring your wrath so that all may see YOUR glory.

Slavery was abolished in England in 1834, the same year Spurgeon was born.
