I’ve only been using mine for a few months but I 💯 agree with your conclusions. At first I had the impression that this was “backlash proof” and seen vids of ppl bombing casts with no thumb control. My first cast the line exploded lol. I’ve been fine tuning it but I think I’ve gotten the hang of it. Good vid! 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for the post one year review. Keep em coming, they are a rare thing. Appreciate the reviews based on more time on the water. I ended up getting shimano dc based on yours and other’s reviews. Thank you for the great content!

Enjoy your videos a lot. I have the SLX and Curado DC and both reels are great with so many applications like pitching, flipping, and skipping under objects. Love Shimano reels.

I own 2 slx dc reels and Ive had them for over a year and I still love them. I used them for awhile and started thinking this DC isnt all that great and I bought a SLX xt. While its a nice reel, it is more finicky than the DC and requires fine tuning with each new lure weight, The DC is a set it and forget it braking system even when changing lure weights. After all this I also bought a Metanium MGL and although it isnt DC I can cast 10-15 yards further and with less effort than my SLX DC reels. You should learn how to tear apart your reels and service them theres several tutorial videos out there. For $10 you can get carbon fiber drag washers and upgrade the drag on these reels while you clean them.
@OklahomasWorstAngler3 жыл бұрын
They're amazing reels Aaron! And someday I'll get around to learning how to tear them down all the way lol. That Metanium though, that's gonna be a purchase of mine in the future for sure. I love the looks of them, and actually don't care for the look of the DC Met

Absolutely agree, I caught my PB, 6.6, using my SLX DC. It's all in the adjustments. Haven't backlashed that bad yet but I'm sure it'll happen. Overall, love the SLX line, especially the DC.

@bottomlinebassin20013 жыл бұрын
You're right on about everything about the SLX DC. I owned three and still using two of them. Don't worry about that drag issue it's not uncommon, and it's easily upgradable. The only issue I've had (which is more of user error) is always using my handle to set the hook on fish, if you do that you risk stripping the nut on the spool shaft. Other than that it's been a jam up reel and I would buy them all over again.
@OklahomasWorstAngler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! And good to know about that drag being able to upgrade the drag! I'll def have to do that soon

This maybe way too old for a response but ... I fish upper part of Illnois river here for smallmouth. Thought about this reel for 1/8 oz homemade buzzbaits (7:?) for quicker retrieve and to save war and tear on arm from buzzing. What do you think about it's application for 1/16 to 1/8 lures, which is what we mainly throw? Enjoyed your video. Thanks,

I like your videos and watch them often, do you have an old baitcast reel you can bear to part with please? I'm asking because I would like to learn how to use them and also have an extra reel in case my old Zebco 404 messes up while I'm using it. Thank you and have a good night sir.

Traded my Curado Dc for a Stella and Bass Pro Shop Carbonlite rod with exactly the rod rating and length I was looking for. Now I miss my dc, which was my primary all purpose reel. I agree with you that in the wind I don't think you can outcast them. Torn right now between buying the SLX DC and a Daiwa Tatula 150. I have a Tatula 150 now and I think everyone is so buzzed up about the Tatula 100, my interests lie with the sleeper reel in this line. The beauty is it's smooth, quiet, long and durable. You'd be hard pressed to find a better reel at that price and that 100 mm handle is wayyyyyyyyyyy cool. I put Wynn barrel grips on in red and wow, that Reel looks scary awesome.
@OklahomasWorstAngler3 жыл бұрын
Duuuuuuuude I love the Tat 150. Unfortunately no longer have mine… my wife ran it over on accident lol. But to be honest, I’d get one of those over the SLX DC again. For no reason other than I like the aesthetics of the Tat over the SLX. Slap a Gomexus handle on it and BOOM! Perfect reel

Nice, I think I’m gonna try the tatula before one of these though, brakes aren’t really something I’m picky about, and I need more of a short accurate skipping reel that can through really light stuff, the sv spool should work great for that

On my SLX once I put line on it, I’ll make one careful long cast, then pull out few more yards of line, put a small piece of electrical tape across the spool then reel in over it to seat it good.. worst backlash can only go to tape.. works great but haven’t tried it on DC

Will the electronics ever just stop working? I wanna get a dc but I’m concerned about electronics going bad over time and having to either get a new reel or replace it more often than I would with a traditional bait caster. What do you think?
@OklahomasWorstAngler2 жыл бұрын
That I'm not completely sure of. I have had mine for close to 2 years now and have no issues. From my little understanding of how the DC chips works, is it's a magnet, or set of, that fires off information to the chip inside. I also have buddies who have curado dc's and have used them for over 5 years and they still whine like new lol.
