@Guy Guillermo You say it's cool for Sam Smith to not like Michael Jackson but then say he's disrespectful for saying it ?? Huh ?? He can feel it but not say it ?? He wasn't doing a public interview or on an awards show. He was in a casual conversation with one person on a boat It also doesn't mean he thinks he can "measure up" to Michael like you insinuated. You can think someone is very talented and not be a fan of their work. Lastly, how in the world do you connect Sam Smith to anything hip hop ?? I'm no Sam Smith fan so maybe I missed his rap album.

@quidagis33

@@adamprice4871 this isn't punk though. This is not throwing out the book on how to play guitar or compose a song. Sam Smith sings like an RnB artist. We learn from what we hear around us. Pop music was heavily influenced by RnB. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey influenced the amount of runs and inflections artists do in their song. George Michael was probably influenced by Stevie Wonder among other people. MJ would have indirectly impacted Smith without question.

It's a diss on Sam Smith opinion because obviously giving his vocal disposition he's been directly influenced heavily by black culture and its probable that MJ had to be one of those very influences. That mentioning of his hypocritically off putting to our culture from a white male who imitates it. The same if Adele would've made the same remark against Anita Baker, Patti Labelle, Stephanie Mills, or Minnie Riperton. You can't downput an icon of a culture but at the same time your making millions by mimicking it. (I thought his most known single was unequivocally a black man until I saw a co-worker playing the video.)

No, that's blasphemy and biased on Godfrey's side. 1.5) JT has actually only shown love towards Prince (and MJ etc) throughout the years, and FSLS is heavily influenced by Prince's late-80's funk-innovations. 2) he said that he isn't better than Usher, Chris Brown, and Ne-Yo. - he's better than all of them. And I'm black so don't come at me with that "you're racist"-bullshit 3) Justified was written by Pharrell and Timberlake. @@marlonthomas8042 people do and did. But Black people don't control the media, and social media wasn't around back then. So those who knew about it would not have been heard, at least in the way we are now. And again, Blackface is racist, period. It being "funny" (it isn't), in a film, or by an actor whose father was a director of many blaxploitation films, or less known or heard about, doesn't make it not racist.

I agree with the God Free. It's just certain respect for certain legends. I don't listen to Elvis but I wouldn't be a national recording artist talking about how I don't like Elvis. The question is : How could you disrespect a child, born 2 years after the end of segregation in the US, who came from Gary's poor neighborhoods, who did not go to school very often because he was doing concerts and tours ? How could you disrespect an 8-year-old boy who was beaten day and night to give us beautiful songs and concerts ? He sacrificed all of his life for Music and for us. He gave us amazing musics and beautiful messages of peace, tolerance and Justice. You may not like the artist, but respect him. This Sam tries to shares messages about LGBT community ( I respect this community ) bla bla bla cause he’s gay lol but it’s easy. A lot of artists defend this community so... you just following the movement. You’ll never touch our hearts as MJ did. Try again. Bye.

Even if he never liked his music he could've at least acknowledged MJ's achievements or contributions to music in the midst of insulting him. Because "black" as a identifying word, has now become a direct term for the negroid species in America ?

I have a nuanced opinion on this. Yes people always should be respectful of other people's culture, but that being taken into account, I hate the cultural appropriation argument, especially in music. Music is a universal culture. It's Human. It can't be hijacked. So I don't know the source of the Justin Timberlake debate, but I think he is dope AF. Maybe someone can educate me on the topic. I also think Prince is one of the greatest musicians and entertainers of all time, bar none. My opinion doesn't change if Prince didn't like Timberlake. Black, White, Brown, Asain, African, European, Middle Eastern, we all have dope shit in various areas.Just enjoy being human and shun bigotry. Do dope shit! ✊🏾✌🏾
@HappyRoach1

The source of the Justin Timberlake debate is, Prince dissed Justin Timberlake about his song SexyBack, where in the hook, Justin says "I'm bringing sexy back." Prince replied "the sexy never left." Then Justin replied back to that. Lately the black community (I'm black, so don't start that shit) has been on this cultural appropriation bullshit and still resents Justin Timberlake for snitching on Janet Jackson YEARS AGO on during the Super Bowl. So whenever Godfrey comes to do interviews on DJ Vlad, he is always bringing that up and getting mad hyped off of it. Like Justin Timberlake didn't have the right as a man to defend himself when another dude, even if its Prince talks slick about him. Prince been talking slick about other artists for years, especially about Michael Jackson. I'm a fan of Michael Jackson, Prince, Justin Timberlake, but I'm not so up their ass that they can't be called out on funny shit. Godrey is a stand up comedian, since when did comedians become PC snowflakes?
