Part 1: goo.gl/XwNyi9
----------------------
In this clip, Godfrey and DJ Vlad discussed the worst rappers currently on the scene and whether they're feeling the overall soundscape of today. Although both refrained from dropping specific names, Godfrey demonstrated why he doesn't consider much of what comes out today as hip-hop starting with artists like Lil Yachty, Drake, and Desiigner. Godfrey considers some of today's music as urban contemporary. He even does a hilarious Drake impression. Watch the interview above.

drake is not rapper he's a child actor that was branded as a popstar. Similar to justin Timberlake started off as child actor in the Mickey Mouse Club. When he reached his teens he was in a boy band. Adulthood he's marketed as a solo popstar, but with black dudes making his beats. Same marketing and marketing branding formula.

@@TheDalinkwent But who has the authority to say what is good music and what isn't
@TheDalinkwent
@TheDalinkwent 4 жыл бұрын
Thats the thing, its not about anybodies authority. Its about the ability of a singer or song to become timeless. Thats why MJ to date to still has young fans, despite even their parents not growing up with Thriller. I myself wasn't even born when it dropped, and I'am in my thirties. Thats also why theres many songs you and I liked back in the day, but can't even be bothered to listen to now. On the flip side, theres old ass songs or artist you never heard of, but then got exposed to it and had to have everything they breathed on. Theres no authority...its just good music is good music.

I can't say i hate drake, but his music is ass. Just me and a lot of other people's opinions. Like why does he have to be "really" rapping to be spitting bars. I have a couple of records from Outkast, Kendrick, Ugk and Mac Miller. I never have to skip a single song on the record because theyre not really rapping on them.

Godfrey is right about good music being good music. I can honestly say that I vibe off my father's old soul records just as much as my rap/hip hop collection. Especially when you realise how much the old stuff was sampled from. Like A Tribe Called Quest said in a song about his father saying hip hop reminded him of bebop.

the 90's will be forever classic because you got a little bit of everything in the mainstream. today you only get one sound. 90's you had your gansta rap, your conscious rap, your party rap, your Rnb with real messages of love, your RNb about just plain bumpin and grindin, your RnB about the everyday life struggle. Today its drugs/party sex murder thats it rap and rnb....no balance except for a kendrick and j cole when back in the day everybody was thriving in the mainstream

"The difference is, those songs back then wasn’t at the forefront of the genre" Sure, for hip-hop fans. As far as mainstream America was concerned, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were what rap music sounded like Everybody likes to romanticize the 80s and 90s as a time when "real" hip-hop was popular but aside from Big, Pac , and NWA, it's always been the poppier stuff that's been the mots successful. Parents weren't playing "Step in the Arena" at their kids' 10th birthday parties. DJs weren't playing "NY State of Mind" at high school dances.
