What a wonderful instrument; the depth of the bass string/s and the high notes are very clear and pronounced, it has that Far Eastern mystical sound (of the Oud) and yet with the touches of a Mandolin and a Twelve String. Great Review. Thank-you.

I am considering to purchase one. Curious, how difficult are the steel strings to change? As I understand, they are only available form Godin and are not pre-looped like some Sitar string manufactures. Please provide me with some guidance and thoughts. BTW, I love your online reviews! The final result is not unlike an Algerian mandol (five course steel string oud, 660mm scale and narrow neck) or a Greek/Turkish lavta (fretted four or five course oud, sometimes steel strung). Also very similar to how Xavier Mas has played modern examples of Spanish laud on Leonard Cohen's recordings, and in concert - seen that. The cittern-bodied lauds are not easy to find in retail stores and the native laud tuning in straight 4ths is not all that friendly, favours cross/up movable barre shapes and ends up with a semitone difference on six courses - so five courses works better.
