I missed the time growing up where I could go to coding camp or anything like that, and thought I would just never really be able to get coding even though I've strung some simple stuff together before and barely made it work. This new series/course for complete beginners and is more up-do-date because some things have changed with the version of Godot I use in this series: Godot 4. In the 2D platformer series I used Godot 3.x, which is largely the same, though some code has changed with the new version of Godot and GDScript, which beginners might struggle with trying to learn from that series but using the new version.

For anyone who is brand new to coding or severely out of practice, I went to school for coding. It was a terrible experience that brought absolutely no reward for me and I hated every second of it. That was almost a decade ago and I decided I wanted to pick it up again because I am still incredibly passionate about game design and have big ideas. But the entire process has be excrutiating to even get started because of my fear and trauma from trying to learn code before. I had heart palpatations and was doing everything to avoid even downloading Godot and Blender. You are good enough. You can do it! Don't allow the story you tell yourself be a self-fulfilling prophecy, you got this! The panic that you may be feeling is being felt by thousands before you, thousands with you and will be felt by millions after you. You are not alone. We do want to hear the story bouncing around in your head as much as we want you to hear the story bouncing around in ours. But it can never be heard if you don't make that first decision and take that first step.

lol I'm loving all the love Godot is getting recently because of the Unity.
@HurricaneSA8 ай бұрын
I wish people would stop saying this. I get that some people are excited that Godot is getting some love but everyone makes it sound like Godot can only succeed if Unity fails. That is not the case. Godot is a very powerful engine in its own right and it does not need other game engines to fail in order to excel. Does the extra exposure help Godot? Of course. Would Godot have surpassed Unity if Unity did not implode? Also Yes. I don't use Godot because Unity tried some shady money grabbing and now I have to settle for something else. No! I use Godot because it is better than the Unity at most things already and it's better than Unreal for 2D projects. Also, it's light-weight, fast and has very little bloated overhead.
@RealOGfikey8 ай бұрын
@@HurricaneSA Way to completely misrepresent my words, dude. That is not even remotely what I said.
@HurricaneSA8 ай бұрын
@@RealOGfikey You didn't say it but all the "Godot getting love because of Unity scandal" comments leads to people thinking that. Look at most Godot videos on KZbin in recent months and you'll see at least one person saying something about them being there because of the Unity thing. It honestly creates an impression of Godot being a second best option only suitable because there's an issue with Unity. And don't even get me started on all the, "Why I left Unity for Godot" videos. Ugh.

I just had to stop and leave a comment. As someone who has experimented with 2D game engines like Klik & Play and Multimedia Fusion I've also taken several years off of game development. I turned 40 this year and figured I'd take another crack at it but I've always been intimidated by 3D game development and 3D modeling since 2D is complicated enough as it is. But so far after discovering your video and finishing this first video I have to commend you with your approach to teaching. Not to disparage others but the other tutorials weren't clicking with me as they assumed the person to already know lots of unfamiliar concepts but your explanations are clear, concise, well-paced and perfect in helping me learn Godot but the added bonus is you mentioned Blender which I also have never used before. Thank you my friend and about to click start Lesson 2! 😇

Hello BornCG! Great to see you still helping the game dev community! Thank you for your work! I finished the coin maze game and even added some music to the menu as an experiment. I took a break since I jumped on to tackle being a one man dev very intensely and I had to step back a bit 😅. I will be backtracking to boender as I went through the maze tutorial without having learned blender first. I need to learn to create my own models if I want to single handedly finish games. I have a music production and performance background (no formal education) so the sound effects and soundtracks I can confidently say I can handle as of now. I found an old laptop that I refurbished (a weaker lenovo thinkpad from 2015 that I brought up to 8gb RAM pretty much lol) I installed some pixel art software as well so you can see how I may have become overwhelmed quickly trying to learn that, game engines and their differences, not to mention CODING, which I have no previous knowledge of other than my experience with your tuts. I am jumping back on today but probably back on that 2D Zelda ish fox with a cape one I cant remember right now lol because I had already started it. I would love to get in touch with you as I am very invested in developing games. For my first original project I want to create an old school Metal Gear-esque stealth game. I am yet undecided as to the art style. I had decided on a project zomboid ish style but I am starting to think it may be out of my league as far as animations etc. I am willing to bring it down to any bit or style I can handle but definitely will be completing your blender and at least a couple more of your game tuts, I really just got worn out 😂! If there is any way I can get in better contact with you please let me know. I understand this is the comment section and it's hard to establish a line so if you want to shoot any advice at me I'll be following. Let me know if you need me to clarify my questions as my lack of experience prevents me from even formulating the appropriate questions! You do amazing work for the community, I can't thank you enough! ❤
