If your game is deterministic, you can record only the inputs the player gives (along with frame timestamps) and then play those back. But that can be tricky. If this frame-by-frame approach takes too much memory for your game (check first before you assume), you can try general-purpose compression like gz, which it looks like Godot has built-in, but you can also check out "time-series compression" stuff like RunLengthEncoding and DeltaOfDelta Encoding, to use a lot less space with your recording.

I didn't forget, I had a few rough drafts for the customizable player tutorial, and none of them really worked that well. It really boiled down to just swapping items with blank Node3Ds or changing materials, all of which is stuff you can all ready find how to do on my channel.
