Godot will probably surpass all other engines imo but unity is better right now in current state... I imagine choosing godot if you are planning on being good in the future or unity if you want to easily make games today. Soon all engines will be even in terms of tech but uneven in terms of having to pay some company to make your game

As a long term Unity developer, trying out Godot felt like going back to Unity 4. The node system is very rudimentary, GDScript is lacking a lot of features and the language server for using external IDEs is incredibly bad, plus the editor itself is missing a lot of key features, including searching nodes by type. The community support is a lot less big, there is very few editor tooling available, and there is no proper package system. With Unity introducing asset refreshing in the background, it feels like the only advantage Godot had is lost. Currently I could not seriously recommended Godot to anyone given all of its flaws, it certainly has room for growth and it will probably get better and better over time, but why would you use that instead of an older engine that has already went through this exact same design process in the past, and has been optimized to be the best it can be?

I have 3 problems with this video. 1. It assumes you have some knowledge of game development from the onset, citing pro's such as Open Source and that it's great for indie development 2. Then uses "Ease of use" as an argument list which is highly subjective and dependent on your computer literacy. 3. It starts with the popularity argument. That's never a good argument. Godot is powerful and so is Unity but they're powerful for different reasons. It's not about 2D or 3D, it's about the tools available to you from the get go. Me coming from Unity to Godot, the Godot environment looks terrible, I'm used to just slaaping things down on the Hierarchy and done. Here i have the weird ass Node system that I'm still figuring out, GDSCript is fantastic in my opinion, but getting any sort of Prototype done in Godot just doesn't seem as seamless, there's a lot of forced redundancy and "stupid proofs". Let me make my god damn mistakes. On the other hand Unity's HDRP/URP kills it, as in, the engine is unusable for me. The amount of information you have to know about environmental lighting and visual design is stupid. But Unity is made for a team effort, while godot is more directed to indies.

@@Juvix._. its a term standing for 'diversity, equity and inclusion' which is such a triggering word for some people, because apparently good things are bad now.

@@IPlayKindred hmm Alright thank you for the explanation

@@IPlayKindredwell it depends, there are bad DEI projects and that's the only side of it people don't like.
