I own a wide range of Godoy lighting gear and found them all to offer extremely good value for money. Unfortunately this is the only piece of gear I’ve been disappointed with. The actual COB LED is outstanding but the flash option is of little value. Despite being marketed as being “four times brighter” it’s actually barely as powerful as a normal speed light. The unit itself is quite large and heavy especially compared to several other units of similar power. As an LED unit for video it is great but I wouldn’t buy this expecting to get much use from the flash unit.

Chris I never use it bare, so don’t care how it ‘spreads’ the light. I always use it with modifiers and never had an issue so long as I’m pretty close to my subject. I primarily shoot portraits so use a variety of different soft boxes, umbrellas and diffusers. I suppose the modifier I use most is a beauty dish but I also use a fresnel lens, they all work perfectly well, just like when they were fitted to my old Bowen’s kit. The quality of the light is very similar to using old school studio flash, its just not as powerful. I’ve used it with a Westcott 7ft umbrella and diffuser when lighting a big group. It worked fine but I had to ramp up the power. The recycle times are acceptable but I wouldn’t call them quick, especially when compared to one of the new strobes like the AD300Pro (which has become my new go to flash). Considering the price, the FV150 is a pretty poor studio flash but a more than acceptable cob led, but if I was going to buy a cob style video light again I wouldn’t bother with this one, I’d go with either the VL series or wait and see what the new UL series lights are like. The FV series lights are a bit blah in my opinion...neither a proper flash or a proper continuous light, just an average, heavy, under powered, attempt at a not very feasible concept.

@Chris , there is no GN for this product. It is a good assumption that is not provided, because it is low. This is primarily a CL product with an option for a two-stop higher output for stills. It is not a replacement for the standard flash products. The angles are 55/120 with/without the reflector.

Very nice, detailed review. This is great for single user environment. My question 1. Is it light enough to be used in normal light stand? Or should be used in strong sturdy stand or C-stand. 2. How is the fan noise? For video work... I've heard that other godox video lights fan are noisy
@hypop4 жыл бұрын
It's weight and size is similar to a standard studio flash strobe so a heavier duty stand would be ideal, especially if using a larger lighting modifier such as an octabox. We use an air-cushioned 260cm / 8.5 feet stand or a c-stand usually. The fan noise isn't that evident as in most cases your microphone won't be right next to the light and you can enable the low-pass/low-cut filter also. We didn't test the exact dB sound output but it wasn't obvious during testing.
@PaulSaxbyPhotography4 жыл бұрын
Gokul S the unit is pretty heavy, I use a heavyweight stand for mine. The fan is silent definitely much quieter than other models.

Their fans slowly stop working. Not a good product for Run&Gun creators.

Wow! I had thought that the Rotolight was the ONLY light that could do continuous and strobe effects, but it seems I am wrong-SO glad to know that I am wrong!! I would LOVE to see how powerful and versatile they are indoors. I shoot photography only, but the ability of having what I would hope is a very strong "Modeling" continuous light (stronger than say an AD600) that is amazingly good. AND...to also be able to shoot in flash mode too?? I am loving the possibilities. Can be gelled if I wanted the bi-color of any tint with an actual gel..so, no worries there. My thought now is, what if you put your camera in "silent" mode where the shutter was not mechanically connected to the light speed. Would the light keep us to fast speeds of the camera? I was thinking that the bottleneck has to do with the shutter "click" that would be slowing it down. Am I wrong?

Thanks so much for every aspect information. Do you have any issue with fan noise? Actually I'm aiming for godox sl-60w. But now I'm undecided whether to go for sl-60w or this fv150. Any chance you have compared sl-60w with this fv150? Thanks in advance

@@himsxoxo update as of 6 Aug 2021, I go for SL200 mark2. SL-60 is too low brightness. For FV150, i decide that i don't use much of flash function. SL-200 mark2 is among one of the most slience light. Cheers!

How does the Led light feature compare with the modelling lamp of other Strobes? Is it the same? Or is this continuous light different?

Hello I'm trying to figure out the flash power of the strobe in this light, is it it 600 watt on flash mode? And 150 watts in Led constant light mode? Thanks

Great video as always guys. I’m currently in the market for a Hybrid, is there anything on the market that allows you to change colour temp when using the continuous light?
@hypop4 жыл бұрын
Currently there aren't any bi-colour hybrid flash/continuous LEDs. Try using CTO filters with the FV150.

I just bought the fv200 after watching your review. I use a fuji xt2 and there is a dark side when using this as a flash at 1/200 and 1/250. However when used at HSS at 1/320 the dark side is gone. Would you know why this happens? 1/250 should still be fine without any shutter delay that causes the dark side
@Seitenwerk2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean with „dark side“. How good is the overall power output as a flash?
@blueredsam Жыл бұрын
Try to lower the syn speed, say to 1/200 of a second, I think the dark edge will be gone.
