freya was the actual villain here baldur was originally (before the immortality) the god of light, wisdom, and courage.

Freya was just a mother who went overboard with over protectiveness in the original myths, Baldur had a twin brother named Hoder, who was born blind but had excellent archery skills, Loki then tricked Hoder into killing Baldur by secretly switching out the regular arrow Hoder was using for one made out of mistletoe, and when Hoder shot the arrow at Baldur, who was daring him to do it while flaunting his invulnerability, he ended up becoming an accomplice in causing Baldur's death, since Baldur did not die in battle, he ended up in Niffleheim under Hela's care, Odin had ordered her to treat him as an honored guest, and so Baldur had a comfortable afterlife, we aren't sure what happened to Hoder, but Loki got the absolute punishment as his favorite sons, Narvi and Vali, were killed and their remains used to chain him up, so he could be tortured with venom dropping from a snake onto his face, and the only one allowed to accompany him in imprisonment was Sigyn, the mother of Narvi and Vali, who was so distraught that she became silent and could only robotically hold up a bowl to prevent most of the venom from harming her husband, but every once in a while she would fail to catch a venom drop or had to empty the bowl, and that's when Loki screams in agony and causes a brief earthquake within his cavern prison
