Normally I despise gary-stu characters but that really isn't Tatsuya. Even with his god-tier powers, he's not invincible. The setting of the story and challenges he faces makes it work and make sense. There is even a sense of dread at times. Even reading the novels, you get the feeling that in the end he'll suffer. There is also the fact that unlike your typical pervy harem protag... he's got a pretty well fleshed out personality. He leans towards the emotionless genius archetype(Which you can love or hate, I like it compared to your typical nakama hero).

If he is using his (forgotten the name, Elemental sense?) then he can't re-write the world automatically, so he would die if killed. Also, I've heard from the books that he's actually around the bottom of the strategic mage power tier; because although his abilities are godlike, he doesn't have the raw power to destroy a city or country in a single strike without a lot of support tech.

Given what we were shown in the anime, I always assumed that he'd had part of his brain and organs removed, to save his step-sister and boost her with that illegal magic booster process and that his mother had just decided to experiment with what was left of him and created something much better than the cyborg drone-like augmentees we were shown. However, it looks like his is just a natural magical savant, who may have some extra emotional issues because of the way he's always been treated by his family.

@AscenditionArc Looks like I understood the novel differently. He is not emotionless because he was disregarded by most of his family members but because his mother (or aunt? forgot who of the twins) tampered with his brain. And where did it say he cant destroy a city in a split second? I mean his scorched halloween blast thing would work just as fine on land and a rifle is not that much hightech, especially since tatsuya can build that thing himself at his company if he really wants. Also compared to Lina, Tatsuya is a much stronger strategic class making him far more significant then the pride of the USNA. And since his overall combat ability is so freaking high he is also better usable in an actual war then that other japanese strategic class with her spherical destruction thing because that woman is tied to a wheel chair. The reason I felt real threat to him is that he can be overpowered if attacked by many people at once/if a magician that affects the mind attackes him e.g. Miyuki/ his aunt. Plus the politics in this setting are scary as fuck. Being alive doesnt matter if you are an outcast of society and all of your friends are dead.

Godsuya is hands down the single most OP character. Every argument against this fact is instantly invalid because of ignorance, for only the ignorant would not understand the power that Godsuya commands. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei anime adaptation is good, but it doesn't compare to the depth that you get from the light novel with its monologue.
