What I didn't realise when I was watching the movie is that the destroyer that the Protagonists were on is a very well known ship in japan - The Kagerō-class Destroyer "Yukikaze." The Yukikaze was known as a "Blessed Ship," a ship that had participated in pretty much every single major battle in World War II without even taking a scratch. I'm serious. It was uncanny. Every other ship around it could have been sunk, and it would sail away without taking so much as a bullet. The thing is, to the Yukikaze's crew, this was more like a curse. When other crews saw the Yukikaze pull up beside them, they felt as good as dead. It was a ship that carried doom to everyone else. The Crew took the guilt of surviving wherever they went. So it fit the theme of the movie perfectly. So the fact that this ship was going up against Godzilla is very significant for Japanese audidances. And the fact that this wasn't made clear in the script, but just left as a little Easter egg for those in the know, shows how brilliant the script really is. That Captain just mentions his Ships name, and that's it.
@mechanicpluto2430

This time they weren't going in for a battle to the death, but a battle to live for the future. And looks like the blessing of Yukikaze has not worn off!

@jjoshaugh
@jjoshaugh Күн бұрын
@@animadian It would, but I think they felt that they had to go with Ships that were still alive at the end of the War. Yamato and Fuzo were, unfortunately, at the bottom of the sea. I guess they could have made a stab at saying Musashi was refloated as it was beached, but that would be stretching credibility a little I suppose. Still, you're right, would have been really great to see the big G vs the Emperor's Big Guns. As it was the Takao fight was fantastic.

Yeah don’t expect many Godzilla films to be like this. The original 1954 film had a similar theme. However, for some reason if I’m not mistaken after his second film all the kids in Japan really loved him, and so he turned into a heroic monster. There was a solid 10-20 years where the series was basically a Saturday Morning Cartoon but as a film. If you’re interested in seeing more of these types of films check out Shin Godzilla, and the OG 1945 film SUB. The 1950’s dub changed a lot of things including the entire moral of the story. Basically the OG version basically ended with someone saying “nuclear weapons can only lead to disaster” and the dub ended with “yeah we killed the monster.”

@Outlawscomin
@Outlawscomin 5 ай бұрын
@@jerelo175 This score is from the original "Gojira" in 1954. It is featured at the beginning credits of the movie and again in the scene where jet planes drive Gojira back into the sea. Needless to say, in the original film Gojira actually WAS a terror to humanity, not a protector by any stretch of the imagination. The same goes for the 1956 American version, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," which was the same movie with Raymond Burr spliced into it. Originally, this particular score was only intended as a backdrop for the humans fighting back, but it was added to the opening credits after all. In Godzilla Minus One the same score was used for what it was initially intended: mankind fights back.

Growing up in the 80’s on the old Godzilla movies I was so pumped when the big Hollywood ones would come out. Nothing but one letdown after another. Reading the reviews of this I thought “did someone finally get it right?” Hell yes they did! Finally someone unlocked the mystery, THIS is how you modernize a classic.

I get nostalgia but what the fuck is this take You grew up on the 70s films and back. Cool, *those films are nuttier than squirrel shits my guy* Legendary's monsterverse is legitimately JUST the showa era, re-packaged and modernized. Godzilla 2014? Modern representation of Godzilla Raids Again Godzilla: King of The Monsters? Literally just Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, down to the star cast Godzilla VS Kong? King Kong VS Godzilla, its that easy This take is WILD

@ssamaco the showa era films don't have good scripts either They have good fights, but fucking every Godzilla film has at least decent fights. Even Godzilla VS human military fights are decent to good just at a baseline for Godzilla films The take ain't hot it's actually just outright contradictory. How can you love something but hate the same thing?

Originally what we now know as the Godzilla theme was actually meant for the JSDF in the 1954 original movie. It of course became more associated with the big G himself, but this movie brought it back to people defending their home from Godzilla.

There were people who cheered when the theme came on and Big G began his attack. It was a good spectacle. The build up to the atomic breath was so hype, but the instant you saw that his atomic breath was a literal nuclear bomb...the entire theater went silent. That scene in my opinion has probably been the most impactful thing I've ever seen in a Godzilla movie.

I remember when my friend asked me if I wanted to go see the new Godzilla I thought to myself, "Oh, right, there is a new Godzilla film from Toho that's just released. Oh heck, why not, if you're gonna see a Godzilla movie the best place to see it is on the big screen, right?" So I went, and by the time this moment in the movie started up I was already so thoroughly engaged with these characters and their struggle that I finally teared up in awe. I couldn't believe how genuinely triumphant the moment felt, how much I found myself relating to the human characters and had wanted to see them succeed. Not just to not die, but to actually *live*. It was a moment that reminded me why I still go to the theater to see movies, because you simply cannot recreate something like this with the same effectiveness on a smaller scale screen. That said, I watched this movie again tonight with my gf and even though we were watching it in less than optimal conditions I still felt that same sense of awe rise in my heart during this scene. Absolutely masterful movie, truly worthy of every accolade it's been bestowed.

This perfectly encapsulates the theme that the 1954 original had that feeling of this giant monster who’s indestructible lumbering towards the city as the slow theme leads to a build up as this giant creature stomps into a town destroying anything in its path while looking extremely ferocious and mean
