I like how in a video about another movie production (5th element?) they reference how Godzilla has taken all the prop buildings that were available and here we have a video of them talking about that as well.

Great miniature effects, the age of 3D printing should be able to breathe a new life in miniatures.

You know you absolutely f-ed up when that happens, this is honestly the first negative opinion about a project I have ever heard from these guys. All the more reason to justify the rebranding to Zilla or just be his own monster.

Setting my thoughts (and emotions) on this film aside for a bit, the effects for this movie hold up. The effects have aged like fine wine. The decision to use miniature sets with a 3D creature is partly why the effects have aged so well; I would argue that the CGI is impressive for 1998, but the CGI would not have held up if not combining it with the sets. While I do enjoy the newest set of Legendary Godzilla films and Shin Godzilla, I do wish they stuck with real miniatures.

I remember being a 10 year old in 98 watching this movie, being blown away. For me at that time this was Godzilla, I didn't like what at that time I referred to as "the fatso from Japan", but more than that, I loved the vibe of the movie, the mystery, all the tanks and vehicles, the whole Army vs Godzilla, those scenes are a cherished memory, a few of thousands growing up with these films. Did you by any chance have done interviews with anyone who worked on Sleepy Hollow from 99?

I remember watching Godzilla at the theaters back when it first released in 1998 and people saying before I watched it that you could see the city buildings through his tale in which I was trying to pin point where it was but never saw it, I've seen it multiple time on home video releases but still can't find it maybe when they release it on 4K in Ultra high definition I'll be able to find where it is, the miniature sets were impressive much more than the design of Godzilla which looked like a mutant dinosaur more than a lizard and looked like nothing from past Godzilla movies, which in the more recent movies resembles more of the classic Godzilla design.

In the (admittedly hazy) canon, '98 Zilla exists, but is just a random monster that the Americans mistook for THE Godzilla. It gets a like 3 second cameo in one of the Japanese films, where it's immediately obliterated. I think it's fun when franchises try to integrate adaptations into their world, even if it's just to mock them. :D

They wouldn't be from Batman as that was shot in England (and also its miniature effects were criminally underused), they would be from Batman Forever/Batman & Robin - but they weren't made for those films they were originally made for The Hudsucker Proxy and then took on a life of their own appearing in numerous films like Babys Day Out, The Shadow, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, and Godzilla. They were last seen in 2005 as background props in the studio backlot scenes of Bewitched.
@piercefilm

Yes, that's what Bruce meant. There were so many Batman films in the 90's. I already posted a segment on the Hudsucker building models. Also, some new model buildings were made for Fifth Element and Batman 3/4 which ended up here.

@@Powerhaus88 Their last appearance (as I've seen from other videos in this channel) would have been 2005's "Bewitched" film adaptation, as set dressing for when the characters are walking around the WB backlot.

Plus a lot of actors always say it's very hard to act on green screen sets. Ian McKellen said on the set of The Hobbit he broke down in tears because there were no real sets unlike the original LOTR trilogy.
@Mer0lk

Not only that but he had to act against green cardboard cutouts so he had to act out scenes without the other actors which was probably the primary reason for him breaking down during filming.

I think godzilla fans are some of the most toxic and least open minded fans. The new design and the more "realistic" vision of the creature are blasphemy, but when the Japanese have reduced Godzilla to a power ranger that makes fools, jokes, jumps, shakes hands with other monsters, becomes friends with humans, flies ... that is fine, indeed it is sacred and does not damage the iconography of the monster XDXDXD

It's coz it's not godzilla? Any bat themed superhero doesn't mean it's Batman. Same with this, heck it's not even a mutant dinosaur. It's just a giant lizard? So it's not godzilla?

yeah, i think toho did more harm to their own franchise than tristar ever did. they took a horror monster and made him and the kaiju genre childish, the laughing stock of cinema. roland emmerich's godzilla is a bad adaptation, and a jurrasic park wannabe, but it's also just another blockbuster, a movie to watch on the weekends. goji fans treat it as the antichrist superficially, only because of tatopoulos' design.
@guileniam
@guileniam 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Maguro they did it for the money. But I don't think it harmed them it extended the life of their franchise: millions of kids fell in love with it and it spread the character and endeared it far more than if it was just nuclear terror incarnate (which was what director Honda always wanted not a anthropmorphic kids toy). Think 60s batman tv show which reached heights of popularity and relevance the comics alone could not.

@@Mr.Maguro yeah so did Godzilla (heisei era went dark and again with Shin) the Adam West parody Batman stopped Batman being cancelled in the 60s lol and bad as it from a character standpoint made the character popular and reach new heights in pop culture. Kids also didn't see the parody and saw it as a serious crime drama and its the same with Big G, they process information differently. You need to understand being flexible with a character is what keeps it relevant.
