I’m 70, and that makes me a year older than Godzilla. Have been watching Godzilla movies since I was a very small child. Although this series got bogged down in melodrama, I still enjoyed learning about the formation of Monarch. The “bigger on the inside” bits had me cracking up since I’m also a Whovian. There is never enough Godzilla for me, so I do need a season 2.

This is why I love Godzilla. He may not be the fastest monster around, but he more then makes up for it with a solid defense, taken all that punishment and give back just as much if not more punishment then what's been given to him. The Mutos and Kong learned this lesson the hard way.

Kong should've had a better showing. Even if Kong was ultimately going to lose the fight, Wingard didn't have to kill Kong (and then have him resuscitated) to drive home the point that he felt Godzilla should've won in the original movie (1962).

Godzilla may not be able to withstand Manmade Electricity, Kong's Electrical power came from Natural Lightning, something that Godzilla can also use to increase his power or turn himself into a living magnet.

@markwhitley8770 yes I can see that Kong needing a plot device to win the first fight seems unfair, but Wingard could have incorporated that same crutch in his movie and still have Kong lose. I really just take issue with the fact that Kong didn't just lose; he was effectively killed. And needed to be revived. It could've been a closer fight, and Kong didn't have to die.

I mean, i understand that people want to see monsters for sure, but that Cate scene was very good. Not only it shows us how humans tried to handle this "natural disaster" that is Godzilla and the Mutos, but develved a little into the character and its traumas. I liked her character tbh, but yeah, her scenes with May where a little cheesy (hated her initial outburst at the beginning of this same episode). To me it was a pleasure to know more about how the humans of this world start to understand and respect these primordial forces, how the G Day has impacted their lives and i can't wait for season two where we should see the events of King of The Monsters and how the Titans play a mayor role in making the earth a better place (on their own way)

I am of the opinion she just got the weirdest dialogue. I also believe her actress is the weakest one of them all. The "older" cast (Keiko, the Russels, etc) were all pretty damn good imo. I mainly had problems with the acting and dialogue and actions of the younger trio. I hope they can sort this out for the 2nd season.

I just finished watching Monarch last night and I think it was really good here. I like how the story and some of the characters went. And especially the monsters (or Titans) in the series. The battle between Godzilla and the Ion Dragon may be short, but it's still cool on how this turned out. From Godzilla entrance into the scene to Godzilla brutally beating the Ion Dragon.

I think Ion Dragon is purely a monster with no intelligence. You can see how aggressive and mindless Ion Dragon is, unlike Ghidorah, Muto, and Rodan; they know how to fall back when they can't win a fight or change their strategies.

We didn’t see a body So I honestly don’t think Lee is dead. That aside this episode was phenomenal, the cgi, the titan fight, the Keiko finding out how much time passed and reuniting with Lee. And the twist at the end that the team had been down there for 2 years. Godzillas entrance went hard, and it was a treat seeing kong at the end. Overall a great show

The issue i have with it, is they could have shown us the missing kaiju, the ones we didnt see. Not all were in stasis or hibernation id have liked to see a slumbering Rodan and Methuselah or jell even Mothras singing Egg.

I thought the show was solid, despite some slow episodes. I to liked Kurt and Wyatt Russel's character with Keiko and Bill more than I do Cate and May, etc. But I don't Have a visceral hatred for them. I do hope that we do get more focus on the Kaiju and Monarch in general in the 2nd season.

It had a lot of rough patches but the overall plot was cool especially with Shaw, Keiko and Randa in the past, and the last 3 episodes were awesome imo. Its fine if they dont have the budget for more monster fights, but focus more on espionage and action rather than bizarre young adult novel drama that feels like a different show

I am not a fan of emotional stuff but Lee and Keiko's reunion was acted out incredibly well. Kurt Russell (Lee) and Mari Yamamoto (Keiko) stole the show with their reunion scene. The three young main stars have a ways to go before they reach that level of acting.

The show was never about the Titans, it was to fill in the gaps about Monarch. We now see HOW Monarch got such High-Tech equipment between Godzilla and King of the Monsters (Apex). We now know HOW Monarch went from one guy begging for money to such a large entity. We also have hints as to what we will be seeing in New Empire, and why there was such difficulty getting to Middle Earth; a pocket dimension in-between.

The whole show was amazing and well written. The character development was great imo. As much as I would love to see more monsters, I felt they gave us just enough to satiate the fans. We don't want to get to Marvelously Bloated with monster after monster after monster, because that will drive away more new fans and some old fans with Titan Fatigue. Well-written? Completely disagree. I found the characters written like bad stereotypes for whatever minority group they represented. May was the worst. Classic mouthy angry black woman who just happens to be a STEM genius. Kentaro, the artsy-fartsy, spineless Asian man. If he were any more emasculated, he'd be crawling around on his hands and knees on a leash wearing a little red patent leather backpack with his shrunken balls in it. No, this was absolutely not well-written, and a look at the writing crew, which includes failures from the comics industry, pretty much ties it all up in a tidy little bow.

The show was actually good in that it actually had me caring and interested in the characters except for one, who we all know who that is. The show could use more moments for the monsters sure, but It was good with what action we got, What I love most is how the show brought the first entries of the monsterverse full circle. Bill randa in Sull Island. Godzilla's actions after 2014. Monarch's change. And of course Kong. Beyond that, it connects GvK better as well with the new film coming out as well. The show expanded on the monesterverse lore in a good way and brought the universe alive in a good way. Fans of the monsterverse should be excited for the future. P.S Fuck May. Terrible character arc. Almost hate here as much as Ramsay Bolton.

As a Mothra fan, even I smiled when Gojira answered the Ion Dragon’s roar with his own and then emerging out of the beam shower. That was an entrance. 🎉. Kong showing up at the end was a pleasant surprise. I wonder does APEX think their platform bunker could withstand Kong pummeling it? The humans also weren’t running fast enough when they were evacuating.

I don't really have a problem with the show focusing on human drama. The biggest issue with the monsterverse movies has always been that they don't really manage the human stuff well, and I believe it's because they want to also have a lot of monster scenes and don't have enough time to fully flesh out characters. I see this series as way to actually be able to flesh out characters and give us the perspective of the world from a human's point of view, which helps make them feel bigger and scarier. In the few scenes that had monsters in them, they felt bigger and scarier than in the last two movies thanks to that. I feel like the monsterverse has the best formula for storytelling here: big action movies for the monster stuff that focuses more on the monsters themselves and has the humans as a supporting role, and series like this that flesh out the characters and actually makes us relate and feel for them. In the scene when they showed the past of Cate, it really gave a weight to all the moments when Godzilla has appeared in previous movies, seeing the effect that an event like this can have, it's just emotional. So yeah, I don't think that this series needs more monsters, I believe that the amount was perfect, and that final fight was everything it had to be. I really enjoyed the show, I'd give it an 8/10

I didn’t mind the old school part of the show with our 3 favourite characters ( you know who I’m referring to ) and the military. The younger actor and actresses were just doing their jobs but my god it was hard to watch. Of course I feel like we can all agree that we should’ve had more Titan exploring. It would’ve made a lot more sense given that the military kept pushing the 3 to find titans for more funding. All and all, the final episode was definitely worth the wait. I’m also happy that this series seemed to have some Easter eggs in it. Like apex, and that monarch guy now working for Apex as Kong was showing up. The space between the hallow earth was perfect. Especially that cavern where Godzilla fought the Ion Dragon, the place just felt way better than the hallow earth. The dark setting, the cool lighting and environment had you on edge. It felt like anything could just pop up at any moment. I wish we would get more of that in the actual hallow earth instead of just a vast open fantasy land of titans. Hopefully Godzilla x Kong the new empire beings that vibe in with the Scar King.

I really did enjoy the show but nearly as much as the movies. I agree there was a really weird obssession with dysfunctional famalies and relationships in the show, Cate Randa being my least favorite because it kinda seems like no matter what romantic relationship she's in she still uses that partner (Referencing her girlfriends in the past and the relationship they are clearly setting up with May), with Keiko being my all time favorite. If the Monarch show is going to really survive then they really need to make it a little more focused on the monsters as well as the backstory of these said monsters like Tiamat and such who never made an appearance on the big screen and only showed up in detail in comics or other forms of media. I like Monarch but it would be better off putting more focus into the monsters instead of these really odd family/romantic dynamics that take me out of the fact that this is a show about the whole Godzilla universe going to town on expanding the monster universe.

Cate's reason for existence wasn't to be mean and nasty to every single person around her like May. May was by far the worst character in the show. She was a stereotype of an angry black woman who just happens to be amazing at STEM. I wouldn't say the character was a racist representation, but I gotta wonder how many of the writers have spent more than 20 minutes with a black person.

Cate, being so damaged, was also hard to watch at times. She came across as manipulative and overly secretive. Some of the people getting into writing rooms have no business being there if their best efforts produce results like these.

Considering she was basically just like her dad, 2 chicks at once thing. Also the PTSD thing with cate was not as well done like we saw in Minus one. It was dropped sorta kinda I guess because she looked in Godzilla's eye? The May character I liked at the beginning of the series, maybe first couple of episodes? I did not like this forced girl on girl romance they were trying to do between May and cate, it was super cringe to me, and did not feel authentic. Both of these girls brought the story down. The other stories were fine, the best were the 3 in the past for me. I don't understand how in the same series some characters are great and other's are not, maybe it's the actors or maybe they had some type of separate writers for the older setting and current setting? 🤔 I am not sure. I still liked the show, but they were the weakest links

@@maggied9918 The forced girl-on-girl felt very unnatural. I think it was episode 10 where May throws her arm around Cate, and I full-on cringed. May is literally a viper. She has the same sort of victim-of-circumstance-as-she-pulls-her-knife-out-of-your-back sort of vibe that Daenerys from Game of Thrones. No accountability for her actions, but you can be dang sure that if she sees any sort of real consequence, she will get to be the "hero" and save her "friends" on that day, people that she jeopardized in the first place. Ugh. Enough about how bad May is. The best human characters in a Godzilla-related product was, for me, Minus One. I actually cared for those characters. Compare that to he younger generation in Monarch whom I actively rooted for the destruction of, hopefully in some sort of ironic way. The fact that both Bill and Lee are very likely dead/no longer relevant to any future season of Monarch means that the original triumvirate that was actually fun to watch no longer exists, and I have to wonder if I can stomach through any more of the kids to get my fill of kaiju goodness.

One thing that has begun to bother me with every Monsterverse movie Godzilla is in, is that he’s always about to be killed by the main Titan villain and our human characters need to rescue him. It happened with the MUTOs, Ghidorah, Mechgodzilla, and now it looks like the same thing is going to happen in The New Empire with him being frozen. I guess it’s ok in GvK because it’s not necessarily humans that save Godzilla, but Kong. It’s also a pretty impactful moment for Godzilla to see Kong save him after he tried to kill him. I know that in KotM Ghidorah is considered to be a Titan capable of killing Godzilla himself, but it could be better if instead of needing to be rescued by the humans, Godzilla could begin to fight off Ghidorah himself after being empowered by Mothra’s sacrifice as he begins to transform into his burning form. My point is that you can still have Godzilla win against a rival alpha like Ghidorah without human interference. Godzilla is meant to be the Alpha Titan, the King of the Monsters, but it can be hard to believe that when the story is constantly needing the human characters to save him so that they have something to do in the third act. This scene in Monarch is what Godzilla should be. A ruthless powerhouse that doesn’t need any assistance from humans to show others that he’s not to be messed with.

I grew up watching the Jaoanese Godzilla movies on Saturday afternoons so seeing the new focus on the creatures is very appealing. And I like how the show linked Godzilla and Kong, Monarch and Apex.

A short but cool fight. I mean it's Godzilla the king of the monsters we all knew he was gonna win. This is giving me Gamera vs Gyaos vibes from Gamera rebirth. Which BTW when are you gonna watch that show? 2:20 so Ghidorah lifting Godzilla in the air didn't count? 8:33 having regular audiences who either are getting into the Monsterverse or having seen the movies yet isn't a bad thing. I really don't mind the modern characters, not a fan of romance in action/sci fi so I just ignore Cate/May stuff BUT I still liked the addition of them in general. I don't think they took away anything from the story. If anything I wanted to understand them all as individuals more. They left Kentaro in the dust in the middle there. Like what the heck was that about? I also would have liked to see more of the research stuff from old Monarch and now idk if we'll get to see that in a new season :(

This is what fans needed. As being Born in 1957 Godzilla has been part of our lives ever since. After putting up with all not very realistic Godzilla has tested time with the modern. It's been a lifetime of watching him evolve as well as us getting older too. He is like Sean never getting older. Wished that was true in our humanverse. Keep the series alive. lee shaw was indeed the best character atleast for me , he was the least braindead character out there . Whenever it showed him being in a tight situation , he always tried to take it easy and don't stress while other characters were freaking out . Story with lee keiko and William was amazing and one of the only part of the story i was interested in .

The young adult drama that was the "recent" past part of the Monarch plot was deplorable. May has to be the worst written character I can remember in any show I can think of off the top of my head. The writers wrote a smug angry black woman who happens to be amazing at STEM. I mean, it's not like that's basically a carbon copy of ever single new black female character in any of the recent Disney movies or comic books. You can not understand how much I was hoping she'd just be swallowed up by a random monster of some kind. Some sort of forgettable death that would be as meaningless as her contributions to the story.
