Godzilla: The Series (Opening)

The opening for the Godzilla animated series. I was around seven when I used to watch this in the Saturday morning cartoon lineup. Even though Zilla is not Godzilla, I still think Zilla is a great monster. So this video is a bit of a tribute to those who accept the existence of Zilla as well as Godzilla and not just the big G himself. They are two different things however, both of them are great monsters. Godzilla will kick Zilla's ass though.

Probably one of the most amazing things about this cartoon is it aired on Fox Kids but has nowhere near the level of censorship its contemporaries had. Human characters in other shows couldn't throw punches, Godzilla was allowed to literally burn his opponents to death. And the military is even armed with realistic-looking weapons.

In 90s there were sure more freedom in animations to portrait realistic environment than today,Swat kats is an other good example. Nowadays not even fishing is allowed ( I observed this in Masha and the bear). Things got insane,the snow flake generation does live in a bubble

@@nozmoscada8861 Sometimes, it just depended on the Network. Shows like Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, etc. Got away with a lot more than say...Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Don't forget, there were always asshole parents that tried to censor cartoons. Even as back to the 60's when shows like Jonny Quest aired, parents got all bitchy...so they decided to neuter alot of the cartoons as the 70's went by. Though they kind of broke free of this by the mid to late 80's with stuff like GI Joe, Transformers, and Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, just to name a few. There is always cycles of cartoon censorship, some eras are more lenient than others.

Some of the shows on Fox aired in other countries, like Spider Man, that forbid any show from doing certain things (same reason you saw Mikey from TMNT use a grappling hook instead of nunchucks in that series). Godzilla was made by Columbia/Sony. They didn't have to worry about the show being exported. Hence, added freedom.

That wasn't even the worst of it, I remember my jaw dropped when an episode started with this grand opening party or something and then this huge insect monster attacked and snatched one of the cheerleaders up in its pincers and ate her. I can't remember what episode that was, will make sure to find it, but I was pretty scarred....... I miss cartoons like this, gotta go to anime for violence now.

Let's not ignore the fact that this is a Godzilla afterall, and has the durability and regeneration that comes with the name, not to mention the strength. He ragdolls 60,000 ton monsters like nothing and is immune to conventional weaponry. Even things like Alien and Mecha weapons only affect him to an extent. The only way to truly incapacitate him is with some kind of chemical attack, which the monsters in the series abused.

The fact the original art composers who worked on Men in Black TAS also worked on Godzilla TAS is unbelievably incredible. Now the music composer for Godzilla TAS was none other than Jim Latham, who by the way was a big fan of Gargoyles TAS, wanted to incorporate the trumpet 🎺 sound with a futuristic upbeat tempo. And thus Godzilla TAS thematic opening was born.

I know the movie gets a lot of hate (to be honest I only remember the ending scene of the egg) but the series was freaking GREAT in my opinion. Sure, it isn't like other Godzilla's, but I actually love how sleek the design is. I love how fast it moves and how it digs. It's like a real animal, rather than the slow-moving, usually bulky kaiju. Dark Chocolate KingPin The cyborg-Godzilla that appeared in the 3-parter where the aliens invaded was indeed the same monster from the 1998 movie and Zilla Jr. 's parent. The aliens took the body of Zilla (which was being studied by the military) and resurrected it as a cyborg. (So, in a sense, the series had a Godzilla vs Mecha-Godzilla battle.)

The thing is, if they called the Godzilla movie "Manhattan Project" (for example), it would have a bigger fanbase now - probably. But they called it Godzilla... so even if most people maybe liked the movie itself, they hated it - because the title promises something that never appeard on screen. I mean they call it GODZILLA ... and kill it with like 4 missiles? As far as i know, the entire japanese army nuked the shit out of godzilla and used like lasers, freezer, big fighting jaeg... robots - and still didnt had one chance against big G.

nope, but it had godzilla on the title... and this giant raptor/lizard got killed by a bunch of rockets. i liked it as a monster movie ... and i watch it sometimes. but as a godzilla-movie its a total failure. speaking of "western adaptation" - you saw the godzilla trailer? for the upcoming godzilla movie 2014? THAT look like a real western adaptation. without "japanese laser shit".

Back in 1998 Kenner relaesed a toyline called Jurassic Park Chaos Effect, which stared colorful dinosaur hybrids. Unlike previous Jurassic Park toylines which aimed for realistic dinosaurs, these hybrids were very cartoonish in nature, and looked like they could be in this cartoon. Kenner was aiming to make a cartoon to go with the toys, but sadly it hot cancled and so did the toyline. This show is the closest we will get to the Chaos Effect tv show

Ah, back in the day where a botched movie could be saved by an amazing follow-up animated series. Both Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin (the director and producer respectively, and both the writers interestingly enough) teamed up again to make this series happen and redeemed Patrick Tatopoulos's Godzilla design. Patrick was also the artist responsible for the aliens in Independence Day. The very same process would happen with Starship Troopers with the Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles where director Paul Verhoeven was the executive producer. The best part about that awesome 3D animated series was that it was the closest representation of the novel and it got to use the bug CGI models from the film! Check it out when you get a chance.

Memories flooding back.. 90s childhood remembering more than just Pokemon and Biker Mice from Mars... Suddenly remembering there was MIB the cartoon, Gargoyles, and Godzilla the cartoon that shaped a lot of what I feel are necessary in children's cartoons.... suddenly beginning to not prefer the 80s sloppy leftovers over what I actually got as a kid... Suddenly brain remembering... EVERYTHING!
