Skar King was truly a monster. Seriously, they weren’t kidding when calling him evil. He wasn’t a mindless beast like the other titan antagonists that Godzilla and Kong faced before, he was cruel, sadistic, ruthless, and tyrannical and intelligent enough to know what he was doing was exactly that.

Godzilla vs. Kong: Godzilla beats Kong but Kong is the hero. Godzilla x Kong: Kong beats Godzilla but Godzilla is the hero. Before I saw this second trailer, that’s basically how I envisioned it playing out. So for Godzilla fans who might feel pissed that Kong beats Godzilla in a fight, you will see at the end that Godzilla is saving the day. Returning the favor to Kong for saving his life. Kong has no shot beating Shimo. We could have a scenario where Shimo could have Kong in near death until Godzilla comes in to save him. In GvK, Kong jumped on Mechagodzilla like he was riding a mechanical bull after Mechagodzilla was obliterating a worn out Godzilla. I don’t think Kong owed anything to Godzilla to want to save him. But he did it anyway. He still had a dislocated shoulder he had to snap back and had no time for warmup. Godzilla did spare Kong’s life and it worked out well for both of them or they would both be dead if the other didn’t show up to stop Mechagodzilla. Legendary is officially entering their Showa Era. The campy stuff from the 1960s and 1970s watching Godzilla performing flying drop kicks. I’m all for it. Not every Godzilla movie should be the same or have the same tone as Minus One. GxK is basically Lethal Weapon/Rush Hour for kaijus. Two kaijus who don’t get along must finally learn to work together to fight evil versions of themselves. *To* *Serve* *A* *Story* In reality, Kong has no shot beating Godzilla in a fight no different than Batman and Captain America at beating Superman and Iron Man. But we saw it happen to serve a story. If a fight became lopsided, then people wouldn’t watch it because it’s not compelling enough to watch. It’s too predictable. Kong wasn’t originally intended to be a kaiju. And the original size of Kong is around 25 feet for both 1933 and 2005 and was not that much larger than a T-Rex he killed by snapping his mouth. The 1976 one stood at 55 feet. Take the OG size of Godzilla at 164 feet from 1954 and Minus One and he’ll only need to step on those Kongs to win. I’m aware Kong isn’t the most powerful rival Godzilla has ever faced and beaten. Godzilla defeated much more powerful monsters in his franchise. WB basically needs to give Kong a battle axe and glove to stand a chance against kaijus with stuff coming out of their mouths. No different than Nolan not wanting to put Kryptonite in the Man of Steel script only for Snyder to bring that idea back in BvS for Batman to have any shot against Superman. Superman could literally kill Batman and the entire Justice League within seconds using his red lasers if he was evil enough and wanted to like Homelander would against other superheroes. Iron Man could literally throw Captain America into a volcano. Same with War Machine. But writers needs to serve a story. Got to make it dramatic. You don’t pay $10 to watch a movie only to walk out 3 minutes later because the fight ended with Godzilla turning Kong into ash. In the 1962 film, Kong did defeat Godzilla. Toho confirmed this. There were never two versions where the Japanese version had Godzilla winning. At the time, Godzilla was still a villain/heavy/heel. He was a villain again in his next film against Mothra and lost to her in that one. He only started to become the hero or antihero when he fought Ghidorah which was the 5th film he was in. Then it started to become campy from there until the Heisei Era. It’s true that WB did nerf Godzilla and overpowered Kong enough to make their fights more interesting. Without that, Kong would be fried gorilla and his head will be served in the scene in Temple of Doom as dessert. But it’s required to serve a story. It’s required to keep people engaged instead of watching lopsided fights that become predictable and boring. I think the reason this movie is feeling more like a Kong movie again is because Jia is probably the most memorable human character from a bunch of forgettable ones in MV. And she can communicate with Kong that she can’t with Godzilla. The humans are used as plot devices to narrate what will happen considering Godzilla and Kong don’t talk. Kaiju Wrestlemania Godzilla & Kong vs. Shimo & Skar King *My* *Godzilla* *&* *Kong* *History* My first Godzilla movie I had ever seen was that 1962 movie. It appeared on TV when I was 7 and I enjoyed it. I remember I visited Hawaii in the summer of 1988 and I asked my friend who was a year older, who would win, Godzilla or Kong? He said Godzilla, of course! And I agreed with him at the time but I still had a soft spot for Kong that I wasn’t going to count him out. I believe I did see King Kong 1976 and King Kong Lives 1986 during the 80s. I’m not sure if I saw them before KKvG 1962 but I did see them as a kid. So I always saw more Kong movies growing up. Then I would go to Universal Studios (Hollywood) and he was always there during our tram tours. That’s why while I think Godzilla is cooler and I love his more interesting designs and toys, I always had a soft spot for Curious George on steroids. So the next Godzilla movie I saw after KKvG was the 1998 film. This was over a decade after I saw KKvG. It was critically panned, so I didn’t watch it until it was available for rental. If it was never named Godzilla and just called it Cloverfield, it’s not really that bad. But I still don’t consider the movie to be any good. It’s still near the bottom. Some younger folks have nostalgia for it like 90s babies do for the Star Wars Prequels. Zilla does move the fastest and does move like a raptor. Every other Godzilla moves too slow and stiff. I did see King Kong 2005 in the theater with my girlfriend at the time. It was good. Felt it dragged a little too much at the end which isn’t surprising because it’s coming from Peter Jackson with his 25-minute ending for The Return of the King but it’s a great remake of the 1933 movie. It actually acts like three different movies in three different genres. It’s highly replayable. I really enjoyed the earlier scenes before they arrive at Skull Island. The next Godzilla movie I saw after the 1998 movie was really 2014. Honestly, I initially hated it. My gf and I couldn’t see a thing. We walked out of the theater feeling disappointed. We saw Godzilla for how long again? A little over 10 minutes? It’s only when I rewatched it at home is when it started to grow on me. But I still think Jurassic World 2015 is what Godzilla 2014 should’ve been. Bryan Cranston did act his ass off in it. Then I saw King of the Monsters in the theater in 2019. I initially liked it more than the 2014 film, but the truth is, I don’t remember much from it. I only remember it being very dark. I don’t even remember Mothra fighting Rodan in it until only yesterday. The human characters were so forgettable. That’s been MV’s biggest weakness. I like Vera Farmiga in Hawkeye but I completely forgot what she did in KOTM except being Millie’s mom. I did see Kong: Skull Island sometime around 2018 or 2019 on TV but it put me to sleep and I never finished it. Where I felt it peaked personally for me is when I saw Godzilla vs. Kong on my phone since not everyone was headed to the movie theaters in March of 2021. I do wish I did see it in the theater because I think fans would’ve cheered when they saw Godzilla and Kong team up to fight Mechagodzilla. I know GvK is more of a Kong movie and it seems more of the same with GxK as we see more Kong in the trailers than Godzilla. Should be renamed Kong vs. Godzilla and Kong x Godzilla, but like I said before, how compelling is Godzilla as an actual character and true protagonist? He’ll show up at the end of Monarch for a couple of minutes just to kick more ass. All these kaijus do is grunt and roar. I eventually saw Minus One around early December after getting my Hiya KOTM G19 and Minus One piqued my interest some more with anything Godzilla related. Then I watched Godzilla (1954), Godzilla Raids Again (1955), and Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) shortly after Minus One. A lot of the Showa ones are available on Tubi. I bought more merch of Godzilla and Kong the following month. I’m excited for GxK because I haven’t seen a MV movie in the theater since 2019. And the trailer seems to have more daylight shots! Yay! I can see the action better. I plan to watch it on opening day and multiple times next to Godzilla and Kong fans. While I’m not the biggest fan on how Godzilla and Kong may look in this movie as I’m not feeling Big G’s pink and Big K looking older and more 2018 Kratos-like, there is still a great shot GxK will go down as my favorite Godzilla and Kong film ever. If the fights are badass enough, I could care less what the story is or how forgettable the human characters are again with the exception of Bernie Hayes and Jia. Brian Tyrese Henry is basically comic relief for MV at this point like he was in Bullet Train and Anthony Anderson was in Transformers (2007) and Tyrese Gibson was in Fast movies. I only want to see badass fights between giant monsters. I think fans whining that Godzilla will lose a fight to Kong in this needs to chill tf out. It’s a movie. A silly premise at that. Kick back and enjoy. Buy their toys later. This movie is not going to be nominated for Oscars. Just have fun and lighten up with this WWE buddy cop kaiju movie. I do think this movie should really be called Kong vs. Skar King with very little of Godzilla and the female ice dragon. Godzilla will save the day. He owes it to Kong.

*Shimo* *Wasn’t* *Shown* Well, we do see her eyes when Kong is looking very startled at who he’s seeing and uses his battle axe to shield himself from Shimo’s frost bite blast. And part of her feet got cut off and a distant shot of her blasting to the sky. And a few frames of her tail and shoulder. Kong has no chance against Shimo. He can beat Skar King with a beast glove but not Shimo. To explain Shimo to some uninformed folks here, she’s like the first titan/kaiju to ever exist. Her ice breath caused the Ice Age. She was the one who froze Ghidorah. She’s the one controlling Skar King. I hope we see Tiamat in this but according to the prequel graphic novel, Godzilla: Dominion, it says Godzilla already defeated her prior to his fight with Kong. She’s not dead though. The movie, Godzilla vs. Kong from 2021, that’s set in 2024 or 7 years after the final scene in Monarch’s last episode set in 2017. Godzilla x Kong could be set in 2028 since Jia, the little deaf girl, has aged. I’m reading Mothra will be returning. She’s going to stop Godzilla and Kong from fighting. You need to rewatch the previous movies and rewatch Monarch carefully to know who’s who and what happened during the prehistoric ages. Shimo is a Japanese word for “frost” or “gray hair”. Since we’re also seeing giant apes/kongs, this is a great prep for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Skar King is supposed to be 400 feet but Godzilla and Kong have grown themselves after 4 years. He uses a weapon called Whipslash. If Shimo stood straight up, she’s rumored to be nearly 600 feet. There’s some whiny Godzilla fans who are pretty angry at what I’m about to spill as I’ve been following GxK news daily…. *MAJOR* *SPOILERS* *AHEAD* Godzilla and Kong will fight in Egypt in this movie. Kong has the glove (or his Infinity Gauntlet) and he knocks Godzilla unconscious. Then Kong is going to drag Godzilla into Hollow Earth to fight Shimo and SK. A lot of G fans don’t like this because they feel their favorite kaiju is more powerful than a big ape. They feel G is getting nerfed again. I personally don’t give a shit. This is CGI kaiju WWE. We don’t need to take this stuff so personal and so seriously. It’s a lizard and monkey tag teaming to fight an evil lizard and evil monkey. If you want a serious Godzilla movie, go watch the 1954 film, the 2014 film, or Minus One. GxK is a buddy cop movie. I have no problem if this movie stars Kong again like the previous 2021 movie. It’s not like Godzilla has much of a personality to convey emotions. Godzilla fans keeps saying Kong has no superpowers like Godzilla does. Neither does Steve Rogers, Bruce Wayne, and Tony Stark. I was rooting for Batman to beat Superman in 2016. If Godzilla does beat Kong, then the movie ends because Kong would be dead. That’s like asking Superman to kill Batman and the entire Justice League. Where’s the conflict then? Or Godzilla can hurt Kong badly, he’ll have to fight Shimo and Skar King by himself. In a way, Kong is forced to carry the movie again because he’s the closest to being human. He’s looking a lot like Kratos in God of War (2018) in this movie. Between Kong and Godzilla, Kong is the one who can show the most emotions. You don’t really see much emotion from Godzilla and he’s not connected to a little girl like Kong is. And listen to the narration… “The titans were the guardians of nature. And the great apes became the protectors of humanity.” Godzilla protects the Earth. Kong protects the people. This is my most anticipated movie of 2024 ever since I bought a Hiya KOTM Godzilla figure and watched Minus One a week after that. I went onto binge watch more Godzilla movies after. Then bought a Hiya G21 V2 figure after selling my KOTM. Then bought an Art Spirits Hyper Solid Series Kong that looks great next to my Hiya G21. I bought Team Godzilla and Team Kong hats from Redbubble that I’ll wear and rotate with my other 18 hats. G & K rule!! MonsterVerse Godzilla and Kong have become my favorite version for each character. It’s MCU but with kaijus. It’s probably more consistent than DCEU. GvK is my favorite movie for both iconic titans. MV G fans tends to prefer KOTM more because we see Big G kick more ass in it and it’s more like a 60s to 90s kaiju movie fighting King Ghidorah and Rodan. I could barely remember what happened in it and the movie was too dark like the 2014 one. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire basically feels like MonsterVerse’s Avengers: Infinity War. I’m anticipating this one way more than Deadpool and Wolverine because we’re talking about the two greatest titans in cinematic history joining forces to battle Shimo and Skar King. You can see how Shimo looks through the Playmates toys. I personally don’t think she looks as cool as Skar King. But wait when we finally see Shimo in the movie. The trailer made the wise decision not to show how she looks. People who love MCU, DCEU, or Star Wars but are feeling disappointed by some of their stuff over the last few years should try to get more into the MonsterVerse lore. It’s a lot deeper than it looks. I personally hope we see more MV movies involving other monsters Godzilla fought in the Heisei Era like Destroyah, SpaceGodzilla, and Biollante. And can we finally see a live action MV Gamera in a Godzilla movie, the original Ninja Turtle? 🐢 😂 Have Gamera and Doug be homies. I’ll be wearing my red Godzilla shirt and Team Kong hat when this movie comes out. Then I’ll switch wearing a Kong shirt and a Team Godzilla hat when I watch it a second time. The latter looks like a badass! It’s live action King Louie on a diet, sitting down with swag and ready to whip some ass with his Whipslash! But I’m reading Skar King isn’t an orangutan but an orange chimpanzee? Got it. Chimps are very aggressive compared to orangutans. I can imagine all the kaiju toy collectors can’t wait to get their hands on new figures for these new baddies. I know many on KZbin use them for their stop motion videos. I think Hiya is your best bet. S.H. MonsterArts has gotten so bad lately with poor paint apps, bad QC, and prices are ridiculous. SHMA Minus One retails for $140 but can go as high as $170. That’s with the tip of the tail breaking off easily. Hiya does the best MV Godzilla toys and prices are only $50-$60. While I don’t really care for their Kong, I do prefer it more than SHMA’s. Kongs are more available since Godzilla tends to sell out more. The Kong I have is more of a statue than a toy since his joints don’t move but it has fantastic articulation. It’s a shame NECA doesn’t make MV toys anymore as I thought they made their Godzilla better than SHMA and were cheaper than Hiya. Shimo is supposed to stand on all fours, so she’ll likely be pretty long as a toy figure since if she stood up, she towers over the other kaijus in the movie. I just hope Hiya does a great job with her. Since she’s a white ice dragon, she’ll probably get dirty easier. I hope there is an Art Spirits Hyper Solid Series figure of that blue eyed orange chimp with great articulation like they did for Kong.
