The maps look extraordinary!

Yes, for a tactical series, the maps are really well done!

Looks an interesting game, but currently looking at MBT from GMT games, might be decision time, unless the post Christmas and New Year sales allow otherwise. I like your reviews which are far better than those just opening a box and reviewing the contents on a 2 minute upload. Another excellent informative review.

At the time I did this unboxing, I felt like I needed a bit more time playing some similar and simpler games before I dug into this one. I think everything is very clear, and it seems like a solid system, but it felt a slightly bigger jump in complexity than I wanted to make at the time. for me. I think I'm likely ready for it now. MBT seems like a fun system, for sure. Tough choices, coyi! :)

Nice unboxing of a well regarded system. Thanks for the vid. 👍 I was surprised when you mentioned LnL: Tactical being more complicated though, because I have played it! It wasn't bad, learning wise (comparable to Classic Squad Leader), but there were times when it became somewhat fiddly, especially when exceptions came into play. So I found myself playing Valor & Victory more often, though I come back to LnL occasionally.

Thanks, Hex! Oh, that's good to know about LnL. I just picked up the digital version of the game and some of the extra DLC for it. I assumed it was roughly the same sort of experience as ASL because of the massive rule books I've seen for sale on their site. So you find it less complex than ASL? That's good to hear. My plan of attack for that is to test the waters with the digital versions and then consider the board versions. Still not sure if I want to dig into a massive system like that though. :)

@@ZillaBlitz Oh, definitely! It's nowhere near the complexity of ASL, not even close. I think that "rumor" came from the (freely downloadable) 5.1 ruleset, which is 200 pages long and encompasses every game (both WW2 and Post-WW2). The massive amount of pages is due to the equally massive font, myriad of examples and clarifications (it's quite wordy). I actually think the font should've been shrunk, so the page count wasn't so deceiving. Anyway, the previous edition (4.1) was just 40 or so pages, and that's with a font two or three times the size of GMT!

Well, that's good to know, thanks! I'm pretty sure that I got my LnL = complex from that hearing about that massive rulebook as well. :)

Really like the looks of this game. You're quickly converting me to this type of game! My only slight worry here is that the game boards look a little flimsy (even the new ones!).

As good as this game looks to be, I probably wouldn't suggest it as a starting war game. It's fairly high on the complexity scale. I'll have to put together a "wargames to start with" video at some point. ~ For the game boards, a lot of people pick up a few different size sheets of plexiglass for the games that don't come with mounted boards. That's on my To Do list at the moment. :) Thanks for stopping in, Custard!

Just learning the new elements in this game myself. I like the game but some rules can be a little 'awkward' at times. I agree, solitaire isn't really an issue at all and I love the maps too! When playing you need to try keep stacking down and maybe not use all of the dreaded game markers :) But I appreciate what Mike D is trying to do, the fire and maneuver element of infantry combat and it's achieved reasonably well. I'm digging thru a couple scenarios right now and enjoying it. Nice job Zilla!

I might bounce some questions off you then, as I start to play, if that's okay. :) I think I'll be playing a couple of "learning" games before feeling comfortable with things, but so far the rules seem logical and clear, with some parts being meatier than others, for sure. Thanks for stopping in, SOLO!

Did you ever get this played? I just got it yesterday, and was looking for videos. Funny how you posted this exactly a year ago:).

Shelf of shame this game sits! When I got it I had just come back to wargaming, and after reading the rules, I decided to hold off on playing for a bit until I played a handful of less complex games. Not that I didn't really understand the rules, but I felt like I wouldn't be able to play and make good videos with the game yet. I think now, a year later, I'd be much readier for this game. It looks like such a very cool system to play, and it's certainly making headway with more games and expansions. Let me know how you like it please! :)

@@ZillaBlitz It seems roughly in the class of ASL Starter Kit. ASLSK might actually be a bit easier to learn IMHO, but I also have more exposure to it.

That feels about right, yes. I recall thinking at the time that everything felt fairly clear and well thought out.

@@ZillaBlitz I'm getting through the rules slowly, but that's a life thing. The rules are decently well written. It feels more complex than it is because it's doing some different things, but I find the system interesting. When I finish the rules, I'll go through the playbook and then get a short scenario set up. I think this is one I just need to get on the table, not one to devote time to multiple readings of the rules.

@@ZillaBlitz i got my first scenario played. I absolutely missed some rules, but not too badly. It absolutely does not PLAY like ASL. It's just a little tricky to learn because it's... idiosyncratic:). Once you learn it, it plays pretty quick. No hangups for solitaire except that you can't hide units. It has a full design your own scenario mode, which might provide an opportunity to design solo scenarios with some house rules for hidden units.

Hi! - I don't have the game at handy at the moment and would have to check. For a faster answer, I'd recommend asking this directly on the Board Game Geek forum page for this game: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/287783/last-hundred-yards-volume-2-airborne-over-europe/forums/0 You'll likely get a quick answer there, and people can post an image there too, which might be helpful in answering this one. :)
