Narrowboat Engine Oil Change - What could possibly go wrong!?

Interesting to see see a different (and challenging) side of narrowboat life, and I admire both your patience. I guess it helps to stay sane when you have a four-legged friend that seems to exude a zen sense of calm at all times.

I thought your instructions to Shell were right on point, well, other than the one about "put that bum away" which in Shell's case is should never be encouraged! It's a really good idea to get Shell involved with the maintenance, you never know when you may be incapacitated and need Shell to do these tasks. Plus, she is a much better size to get into the cramped spaces! To be fair, I've never had an oil filter leave it's seal on the engine before having done many, many oil/filter changers, but obviously something worth checking!

We have a vetus M4.15.. Liveaboards 9 years now. My observations/experience that may help you.. There is a little fuel filter in the back of the electric fuel pump (silver looking tube) that often gets missed when the engine has been serviced. It's opened via a push screw cap, with the small paper filter inside held by a magnet in the centre. Products Made by Baldwin filters.. A premium manufacturer. 1 x FBW-PF7824 Filter-Fuel The main engine fuel filter. 1 x FBW-BF1257 Filter-Fuel These have a metal drain valve . Not a vetus plastic drain valve that's now a bss failure due to fire risk. Worth noting when you next do a service. 😊
