Don't get too excited, ours is a bit rubbish, saves coal. But not a lot of heat fan on top doesn't even turn ..

Another nice vlog! It seems that the coal cage is very well recommended by all who use it. Something funny is that I don’t even know where to get coal here in the US. It used to be extremely common for cooking stoves and heating. But people here have moved away from it.

@@ChrisandShellAt least in my area there are still many people who heat their homes with wood because it’s cheap but even wood is being more and more restricted due to air quality. However wood pellets are cheaper and burn cleaner and hotter. Coal is unused by anyone I’ve know I’m my 41 years of age where I live. Most people use one of these or a combination of electric or natural gas furnaces, heat pumps, electric wall heaters or electric baseboard. Boilers systems aren’t common in homes (at least not in the western US) and are being phased out except in large commercial buildings like hospitals and office buildings. I had to look it up. Apparently as of 2019 there was only approximately 130,000 homes in the US that still use it. We have over 300,000,000 people in the US and with approximately 213.3 million single-family dwellings in the US. So as you can see it’s been phased out to a point where people can’t even buy it in most of the US. Coal is being phased out even for power and every day it’s future is less certain. I’d think that within 10 years the only coal in the US will be coming coal for steel making and for export. I’m not preaching or judging. Just talking. It’s a great option for you on a live aboard boat. We have so much forest land in the US that wood is easy to get and dirt cheap. A cord of wood (split and tightly stacked 4’x4’x8’ pile) is around $150. A 1000sq ft home uses about 3 cords of wood for a winter. Cheers, Jeremy

It puts out less, but it’s a more ambient heat. Without it, it generates too much heat that is then wasted. It’s 👌 ❤️🌱💚

Hey Rich, we wouldn’t say it’s colder, it’s a more manageable heat. The burner with a full grate is unbearable. This gives us a much more even and comfortable heat.... 👌👍🔥

We’ve got Excel, I’ve tried Red and found it pants. And I do think it changes form bag to bag!!!!!.... can’t beat wood really.... ❤️🌱💚

@@ChrisandShell yep we burn loads of wood. Vast majority is free wood I've found by the side of roads. Trouble is getting it cut up split and stored. Just have one bag of coal for emergencies

Hey Mark yes it is good, and it’s definitely helped in the not so freezing times. I have however changed things up and added more firebricks to the stove as we’ve foraged a lot of wood this year and the coal cage isn’t great for other fuels, so we’ve made the inside of the stove smaller but big enough to burn wood when we want. I’d still recommend it. 👌

We have a coal cage not alot of heat NOT even enough to turn our fan on top , very disappointing, saves coal , not able to keep us warm.

Sorry to hear that. Although after having it for a while now we don’t tend to use it in the dead of Winter. It’s good for September/October/March/April but when it gets cold, cold we take it out. Or occasionally I’ll use it to keep the fire in over night… hope you’re keeping warm without it 🤞🔥🔥🔥

If you have a morso Squirrel stove, 2 engineering bricks layed on their side each side of the grate does a brill job for 60p each. Taters bake superbly sat on top of the bricks. Cook for 20 mins and turn them for another 20. Perfect every time!

Couldn't take my eyes off Shadow. He was out for the count. Btw, the origin of sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite is from when beds were made of rope under the straw mattress. Sleep tight meaning that the ropes don't become lose during the night, and don't let the bed bugs bite was because the straw mattresses had bugs in them. Take care, Jane, Philadelphia
