Hi All, this one I mislabeled. Even though the Calathea is now Goeppertia in this instance, I had the species as "latifolia" ... but it appears to be "insignis". My bad. Do not pay heed to the "Emily Dickinson slant rhyme" in the description above. Haha. As I shared in an earlier episode.. (or did I share on Instagram...????) - I'm going to do a round-up of updates on any mislabels or new name changes of the 365s AFTER they're done, because I think that will be easier. Thanks always for watching!

I'm not an expert by any means, but my research suggests it may actually be correctly named Goeppertia Lancifolia. Please tell me if I am wrong, just thought I'd throw another suggestion out there in case it is actually correct, for your records and mine.

After I memorized Calathea lancifolia, I learned of the change in genus! I haven't learned the new name. I have had no success with prayer plants or Calatheas, but my rattlesnake plant has thrived for about 18 months in my bathroom, about 3' from the south facing window. I mist it with rain water or dehumidifier water.

You are right about the humidity requirements. I live in the high plains of Mexico where the humidity typically hovers close to single digits. I bought one of these from a local greenhouse and it just slowly died over about 6 months. I'm sure it was due to the lack of humidity and possibly from the high mineral content of the water here. I love you videos, keep them coming.

It's a rattle snake and that's all I can give, lol. A new leaf recently got really tall and touched the grow lights and it bleached it out on both side of the leaf. So I have to raise the shelf. That's most all humidity loving plants if they get too dry.

When I repotted mine I was shocked to see how tuberous the roots are. It had loads of large nodules that looked like they would help store water a bit better than other prayer plants. Mine does have a few crispy edges here and there, but I've accidentally let it go much drier than I meant to and it seemed no worse for wear. It has certainly been the most forgiving of my prayer plants/calathea! I've also been surprised to find that I've gradually "trained" it to do really well in front of an east facing window that does get about 2 hours of direct early morning light. The plant's growth has really exploded since I put her in that window, but I was careful to transition her there slowly from her previous shady spot.

I have it next to the tank and the plant gets a little bit of the turtle's uva/Uvb bulb light for about 8 hours a day and medium to low indirect sunlight when the window is open. @mochixplants4 жыл бұрын
grow lights usually need to be within close proximity of the plants and need around 8 hrs a day, so if its just the ceiling light and their are no windows it wont really be doing much growing. with 3 weeks being longer than i've ever left a houseplant without watering maybe consider changing to a faster draining soil as it sounds like it could rot if the water is remaining for so long, but of course ensure the lighting isn't an issue first.

I was always under the impression that calatheas needed to be pretty moist all the time but I've noticed that when I let mine dry out a little more (not bone dry but at least 75% dry) and then bottom water, they are much healthier. This is a new discovery so I'm not sure if it's coincidence or actually working for the better. When do you water your Calatheas? How dry do you let the soil get?
