i always wonder how differnet houses are built in the US compared to for example germany where i live. Houses over here are way more "massive" and stable. Really, you cant compare them...

The southern-eastern states have hurricanes and tornadoes. Northern states have a lot of snow in the winter time. South-western states have deserts and California has earthquakes. So house construction varies depending on location and of course the kind of construction package the buyer wants which again varies in price range. Commercialized. Unlike in Europe, less options because of land size but your old houses and buildings are beautiful and classic and were built to last.
