It took longer than an hour Frieza got his ass beat through two failed fusion before Goku and Vegeta got it right. 30 minutes until the fusion ended plus don't forget 30 extra minutes of cool down in-between before they could attempt the fusion dance again. Each failed fusion took 1 hour of time while Broly was fighting Frieza, so Frieza got beat for 2 hours before Gogeta actually showed up to fight Broly.

I feel bad for Broly. Granted, haven't seen much of him or of Dragon Ball in general so my opinion is underinformed but he seems like a genuinely nice person whose upbringing has fucked him up. He would benefit from therapy, probably anger management, and definitely a supportive community. He seems like someone I would hang out with.

That is honestly extremely accurate a description of this incarnation of Broly. Dude lacks the Saiyan's typical bloodlust/appetite for battle but his Dad's an asshole who groomed him to basically be an attack dog. To spoil the epilogue, Goku goes to see him much later after the fight and he's pretty receptive to the idea of training or hanging out.

Secondly, they were forced to live on a planet that required them to be tough after frieza destroyed planet vegeta. Thirdly, broly is extremely power even for a sayian, and has trouble controlling his temper. His pops did all he could to raise someone like that.

Lets keep in mind it was not only 2 against 1 but fusion significantly amplifies what both fighters could ever achieve on their own. Broly on the other hand got up stronger with every hit he took in spite of all these odds. He only reached the limit of strength he could muster at this current time. But again after an experience of close death, a Saiyan becomes several times stronger. We saw that happen many times during the namek arc. I wonder how this fight affected Broly's strength.
