Thanks for the great video, Kelly! I set up my background and started filming myself and realized the text in the background was all backwards. Skype fixes this issue, but I was wondering if it's ever a problem on sites like Gogokid? Can you write on a whiteboard during class and is it readable? Thanks again!
@TeacherKelly3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! I personally never worry about it. I don't do much writing on whiteboards in class. But typically I find most platforms also correct for it, as my background is readable on camera. (I have never had a complaint or mention of things being backwards, so assume it isn't an issue haha!) 😊

Seems like a lot of incidental language (“let’s get a lot of donuts,” “I think we need our first donut,” “ok, Suzy, let’s get going”). Does gogokid encourage more natural, conversational English like this?
@TeacherKelly4 жыл бұрын
Gogokid wants you to grade language to the level, like most other companies. I probably could use a little less, but you will also notice I am supplementing my language extensively with TPR and props. (For example, the kid would've easily known I was rewarding them with a donut, for example, despite using 'too many words' to say so.) And none of the extra language is being taught or used in the actual teaching. When I teach target words/sentences, I try to keep it minimal and simple.

Kelly, I did teach with Gogokid about 2 years ago, but also taught with Vipkid. After 6 months I decided to just teach with Vipkid, so left Gogokid a year ago. I recently got an invitation to come back to Gogokid and they told me about their incentive. I applied again with a different email, because basically that is what they told me to do. I am practicing for the demo. I am wondering if I should tell themin the introduction that I worked with them at one time. Even though they invited me to come back, I am hesitant. But I want to include that as my experience. What do you think?
@TeacherKelly4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I am not sure. Another guy posted in the gogokid fb group yesterday that he worked for them previously as well, and he reapplied and reinterviewed, only to be told he would need to have his old account unlocked. 🤦♀️ If you are worried, just talk about your experience broadly (ie, you've taught online x number of years, ages y-z, etc), and see what happens.

What are the dimensions of your props?
@TeacherKelly3 жыл бұрын
It varies based on the prop you are talking about haha. And dimensions honestly don't matter, it is about how close you hold them to the camera. Some things I have are very small, but I hold them close to be seen well. Others are bigger, and I can hold them farther back.

Do the slides guide you through the process is my question? Do I need props?
@TeacherKelly4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for connecting. I saw your previous comment, but it disappeared before I could reply. I am happy to be your mentor for gogokid or others. (You can apply via my links under each video, and email me to chat at teacherkellyuka@gmail.com.) You can see the exact slides in my video walk-through here; those are exactly what you see when you prepare and do your demo. They do essentially guide you with what to do - intro, expectations, demo. Yes, you 100% do need props, for your demo.
@music4life52634 жыл бұрын
@@TeacherKelly Hi there! Thanks for your speedy reply!! I am super excited to get started. That's just it. What props do I need? This has been my question. I've been teaching for 28 years, particularly in the music classroom but, more recently, as an English teacher. Props are the name of the game in my Universe. However, since slides are guiding you through (which is great) how do you know in advance what props you will need during the video?
@music4life52634 жыл бұрын
If I knew I needed an entire zoo of animal props and a yellow wall. Okay. I'll figure it out. Done. I just need your expertise to be able to navigate this. Thanks
@TeacherKelly4 жыл бұрын
@@music4life5263 Where did you get those requirements from? 🤣 Props are needed, but no one dictates what those are. You can be as simple or creative with it, as you like. (Most of my props are just things I have printed!) You ideally want at least 3 props for your demo, if you can. You can always view slides in advance, both for demos and for teaching, so you can always prepare as needed. (For instance the slides for gogokid are given to you as soon as you apply. You can view them, practice with them, etc. There is no rush to record your demo, you can do it when ready.)
@TeacherKelly4 жыл бұрын
@@janestratton1790 If you are at the stage of demos, you have the slides already. Props should either be used to engage the student or support the lesson material. (For example, if you are teaching ‘sad’, using a sad emoji face as a prop could be useful.) I am happy to do a coaching session with you to help you practice and prepare for these demos.
