The Gogoplata was my primary motivation to improve my flexibility years ago (still working on it). I just thought it was so damn cool when I saw Nick Diaz do it in Pride.

I've been told that a gogoplata, while I am flexible enough, isn't something I should do because I'll get crushed by pressure game. I(210, 6'5") often roll with this (280, 6'2") Russian man that has an excellent pressure game. I often can't keep him out of my side. Any tips?

6'6" 200 here. Learn how to play spider and lasso. I had the same problem with getting stacked up and crushed with pressure until I really caught on with the collar/sleeve control with the lasso. Once you have lasso or DLR, CONTROL the opposite hand. Helps a lot. Good luck with your game. I hate steamroller pressure game and love playing the spider/distance control game with my body type.

Clark Gracie can omopalata anyone and his set ups are high percentage for me. Roger can play a mean closed guard, and as tall guys it can drive your opponent to make mistakes in trying to pass. It's a patience game. Jon Thomas is a phenomenal teacher and has great techniques that really help my tall lanky game.

Maaaan, as a white belt I half-way figured this out independently, and i used to get this a lot on people from guard but didn't know how to finish! I was thinking too complex! all I needed to do was grab the guys head 😩😩😩🤣🤣🤣
