Beast mode was already beast mode when he was in Buffalo. Considering he wasn't just filling out the depth chart it makes it even more poetically unjust they didn't feed him the rock. I feel like they went with the pass with the impression that pass play breaking down has more options and ways to improvise compared to the run. Russ has that on his hands people are so quick to blame the play call with hindsight it was an impulsive quarterback getting read like a book by a veteran defense that studies tape like weebs disect the manga. Russ being even at his fastest not particularly quick for the mobile quarterback standard he wasn't going to do the outside run himself and succeed.
