Not true exactly, Gohan did train after T.o.p. it just wasn't like a lot, and he probably slowed down after not having any threats to deal with. I don't know if they're gonna adapt the manga into the anime, but looking at the manga since superhero still takes place after granolah, like the timeline says it should. Gohan was still in shape, but just not as much in the manga superhero counterpart. He fought decently in the moro arc against moro's guys when they came to earth and, again, was still in shape. He even stated that if you watched the movie , he had been training in secret and specifically to learn the Special Beam Canon, which he used to take down Cell-Max. Gohan has been training throughout Super, too, but again, He probably slowed down after a while or wasn't as consistent as opposed to Goku & Vegeta since they train every day.

A decent explanation for Beast would be that it's an ascended Mystic or Ultimate form. We know that Hybrid Saiyans have more potential than regular saiyans, especially since Gohan has human DNA, so he would be more emotionally attached to his loved ones and friendships as opposed to a regular Saiyan. We've seen this multiple times in the past and not even just through Gohan but goku, vegeta & future trunks. Let's not forget that he gained it because he thought he had lost piccolo in the fight while fighting Cell-Max. He wanted to help as soon as possible, but Piccolo kept telling him to charge up, and then that happened.

@georgeyorchs999 Granolah isn't the strongest in the universe anymore. Goku & Vegeta have long passed him already in his own Arc, along wit Gas. SuperHero takes place after Granolah, and Gohan is said to be the strongest warrior at that time, even said so by Akira Toriyama, and you can even look this up. So, for the current time. Gohan scales above everyone, regardless of what others think.
